Despite advocating for free speech and helping fellow veterans, the author was marginalized, received lower pay, and eventually fired for expressing opinions,\u2064 shedding light on the challenges faced by conservative lawyers in the legal profession.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p><?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><\/p>\n<div class=\"article-content\">\n<p>I am a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/video\/6330652522112\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Navy SEAL and Iraq war veteran<\/a> who transitioned back into civilian life as a lawyer.\u00a0 Recent experience has taught me that people with my beliefs and values are viewed as parochial, at best, and in any case are not welcomed by many of those who are considered \u201cleaders\u201d in the legal profession.<\/p>\n<p>One of the things I realized soon after I started practicing law is that there are very few practicing attorneys who are veterans, and even fewer who serve in positions of influence within our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/conservatives-challenge-big-laws-left-wing-tilt\/\" title=\"Conservatives question Big Law's left-leaning bias.\">largest law firms<\/a>. This is part of the problem. After my honorable discharge from the Navy, I earned my undergraduate and law degrees from Rutgers University in New Jersey before being hired as an associate at McCarter &#038; English LLP (M&#038;E), a firm of more than 400 lawyers and the oldest law firm in New Jersey.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-267365606\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-3392d6382d01945af0c0fd7beb244c00 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-3392d6382d01945af0c0fd7beb244c00\"><\/div>\n<p>I noticed a change in politicization at the firm between 2019-2020. I was alarmed to see images on M&#038;E\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mccarter.com\/insights\/racism-uncovered-americas-achilles-heel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">website<\/a> that appeared to support Black Lives Matter (BLM) \u2014 the controversial organization involved in \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/media\/513902-cnn-ridiculed-for-fiery-but-mostly-peaceful-caption-with-video-of-burning\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fiery but mostly peaceful<\/a>\u201d protests that resulted in multiple <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2020\/oct\/31\/americans-killed-protests-political-unrest-acled\">deaths<\/a> and over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/ny-times-ignores-18-deaths-2-billion-damage-gop-bills\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$2 billion in damages<\/a>. The firm also appeared to have an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/audio\/2024-01-30\/bloomberg-law-will-trump-pay-83-3-mm-activist-investors\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">anti-Trump political lean<\/a>. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/missouri-sues-school-boards-association-for-hiding-details-about-bidens-war-on-parents\/\" title=\"Missouri Sues School Boards Association For Hiding Details About Biden\u2019s War On Parents\">receiving multiple emails<\/a> from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/mccarter-%26-english-llp_diversity-dei-retreat-activity-7087524923648200704-NR5C?utm_source=share&#038;utm_medium=member_desktop\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">M&#038;E\u2019s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee<\/a> commending numerous events, I sent a reply email asking them why they failed to send out an email on Sept. 11 that year honoring and remembering the fallen. In return, I received an email from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mccarter.com\/firm\/diversity-inclusion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">DEI Committee<\/a> member and renowned <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/natalie-watson-a6bb4939_pride-month-qa-with-natalie-watson-activity-6949084846644236288-PQtx\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">LGBT advocate<\/a> Natalie Watson (now a NJ Superior Court judge) chastising me.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Punished for Thought Crimes<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The firm\u2019s chair human resources officer turned down my request to be on the firm\u2019s DEI Committee, stating there was already another veteran, Alexander Major, on the 14-member committee. Despite me being the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/327340073959991\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">president of Veterans Alumni of Rutgers University<\/a> and the founder and lead SEAL of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=4-ijdBG94M8&#038;t=3s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NYC SEAL Swim,<\/a> the firm didn\u2019t want me anywhere near their DEI Committee. What\u2019s more, my assignments in the Bankruptcy, Restructuring, and Litigation Practice Group were replaced \u2014 in majority \u2014 by assignments representing alleged sex offenders of minors.\u00a0I fought for the right to speak freely and for the right of others to do the same, yet I was paid far less than my peers for the same work and increasingly marginalized within the firm.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In another instance, I attempted to help a former SEAL who was contacted by the FBI because he attended the Jan. 6 protest in Washington, D.C.\u00a0 He did not enter the Capitol building but rather joined other Americans in expressing his frustration with the political elites in the halls of power.\u00a0Since I am not a criminal lawyer, I did what any lawyer should do in such a circumstance \u2014 I made inquiries within my firm to find a lawyer to represent a fellow veteran.\u00a0I was met with disgust and disdain for even asking <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/national-security\/2023\/06\/11\/clinton-biden-classified-documents-trump-indictment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Robert Mintz<\/a>, Alexander Major, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mccarter.com\/people\/geoffrey-n-rosamond\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Geoff Rosemond<\/a> (all prominent lawyers at M&#038;E). When <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mccarter.com\/people\/alexander-w-major\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Alexander Major<\/a> replied to my request he stated, \u201cGoing to shoot straight. I\u2019ve lived under oaths my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bareback-rocket-ride-the-hunter-biden-story\/\" title=\"\u2018Bareback Rocket Ride\u2019: The Hunter Biden Story\">entire adult life<\/a>, and none is more sacrosanct than my oath to serve. But I\u2019ll leave my emotions out of it and simply say I have no interest in providing any assistance<em>.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-ab72589d048fb9d40a7132f670a2a969 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-ab72589d048fb9d40a7132f670a2a969\"><\/div>\n<p>In December 2023, I made a post on LinkedIn in which I expressed my beliefs about the destructive role of violent ideologies, as well as how the roots of such thinking played a role in the events of Sept. 11, 2001, and in the terrorist attack on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023. Both repeated patterns of mass horror. In my post, I shared \u201cmy opinion that there\u2019s also a radical culture within the Islamic world that promotes antisocial values and glorifies violence.\u201d I personally witnessed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nevadaappeal.com\/news\/2004\/oct\/13\/suicide-bombers-kill-10-in-baghdads-green-zone\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">two suicide bombings<\/a> in Baghdad, Iraq \u2014 I have seen the result of violent ideologies close-up.<\/p>\n<p>Even though my personal experiences have informed this perspective, I received a lot of pushback about the post and was ultimately fired from M&#038;E for expressing this opinion.<\/p>\n<p>That post is still on my LinkedIn <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/williambrown77_brides-of-allah-palestinian-women-jihadists-activity-7144618088812990465-m_P8?utm_source=share&#038;utm_medium=member_desktop\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">page<\/a>, and I stand by every word of it.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Not Alone<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>In the months since I was terminated for expressing opinions, I have learned that my experience is all too common these days. It is undeniable that conservative lawyers are either being driven out of the largest and most <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-announces-2-republican-nominees-for-ftc-positions\/\" title=\"Biden picks 2 GOP nominees for FTC roles.\">prestigious law firms<\/a> or being bullied into silent corners where they are expected to bill hours and keep their thoughts and values to themselves.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-5045e1896df7201fc42b6a73adbabf7f fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-5045e1896df7201fc42b6a73adbabf7f\"><\/div>\n<p>Consider the case of Paul Clement and Erin Murphy who, after securing a victory for the Second Amendment in the United States Supreme Court, were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/legal\/legalindustry\/paul-clement-start-new-litigation-firm-kirkland-eschews-gun-cases-2022-06-23\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">forced<\/a> out of Kirkland &#038; Ellis LLP, a firm of nearly 3,000 lawyers and almost $5 billion in annual revenue. Then there is the case of two female lawyers at Hogan Lovells (a firm of more than 2,000 lawyers and nearly $3 billion in annual revenue), who were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.abajournal.com\/news\/article\/hogan-lovells-lawyer-says-she-was-fired-after-defending-dobbs-discussing-abortion-impact-and-genocide\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ostracized<\/a> from their firm for expressing pro-life values in response to the unhinged hysteria that gripped large law firms in the wake of the <em>Dobbs<\/em> decision.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Beyond these <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/gop-senators-meet-with-biden-scotus-nominee\/\" title=\"GOP Senators Meet With Biden SCOTUS Nominee\">high-profile cases involving<\/a> some of the largest law firms in the world, I\u2019ve heard from many others within the profession who are experiencing the same thing. Most of them want to remain anonymous for fear of winding up like me. But others, like Chad Williams, are starting to speak up publicly. Williams took a public stand to <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/10\/25\/why-domestic-terrorists-like-me-cant-forget-public-school-covid-tyranny\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">expose corruption<\/a> by public school officials and lawyers at the large law firm that represented the school during the pandemic. Leaders at the large law firm where Williams was an equity partner sought to suppress his efforts to expose the misconduct and ultimately marginalized him because of his persistent objections to the firm\u2019s Covid policies. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>There is a common thread woven through all these stories.\u00a0There are those who fully accept and adopt the approved narrative, and there are the \u201cothers.\u201d\u00a0 One who is in the ideological minority (i.e., anyone who holds traditional values or, heaven forbid, supports Donald Trump) has a choice to make. They can either censor themselves, participate in the mandatory DEI reeducation initiatives, and collect their big salaries, or they can expose themselves as \u201cinfidels\u201d and suffer the consequences. The sarcasm, denigration, and condescension pervade the entire legal profession, and it will continue to have a profound negative consequence for our system of justice.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Rallying Cry for Lawyers<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Being terminated by M&#038;E caused a lot of stress for me and my family.\u00a0 Thanks to the brotherhood of my fellow veterans, I have found a home with the <a href=\"https:\/\/parlatorelawgroup.com\/who-we-are\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Parlatore Law Group<\/a>, a firm led by a fearless advocate named <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/video\/former-trump-attorney-tim-parlatore-jan-6-case-against-former-president\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tim Parlatore<\/a> who successfully represented fellow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/07\/02\/us\/navy-seal-trial-verdict.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher<\/a> in a case where the NCIS was caught covertly monitoring attorney-client emails.<\/p>\n<p>If you think Donald Trump and his lawyers are the only people under attack, you are mistaken. The people leading the purge of ideological conservatives in the legal profession today are the same people who will become judges and elected officials tomorrow.\u00a0They are the same people who will decide whether citizens who protest the corruption and incompetence of our government officials will be entitled to quality legal representation and a fair trial. Everything they are doing is designed to silence and eliminate conservative voices from those centers of influence.<\/p>\n<p>I am sharing my story in hopes that good men and women in the legal profession will lend their voices to this discussion.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As abolitionist Charles Sumner observed, every man is entitled to his natural rights, \u201cjustice to all, without distinction of person, without abridgment, and without compromise.\u00a0Let justice be done, though it drags down the pillars of the sky.\u201d\u00a0Fiat Justitia, Ruat Caelum.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-14ab4fbc017274b77a384fc685082079 fdrlst__b89e9-after-post-content\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-14ab4fbc017274b77a384fc685082079\"><\/div>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">    \t\t\t\t\t   \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After serving as a Navy SEAL and Iraq war veteran, I transitioned to civilian life as a lawyer.
