Various states struggle with the legal complications surrounding squatter disputes, leading to\u2064 arrests and tragic incidents.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/property-rights\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Homeowners\">Homeowners<\/a> are facing off with thousands of squatters invading their houses across the nation, leading to a rise in standoffs between property owners and criminals.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>When <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepDonaldsPress\/status\/1770898042557739288\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"a viral video\">a viral video<\/a> of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/venezuela\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Venezuelan\">Venezuelan<\/a> migrant and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/tiktok\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"TikTok\">TikTok<\/a> influencer Leonel Moreno encouraging others to takeover empty American homes circulated recently, the plight of the homeowner\u2019s rights reached a fever pitch. <\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/new-york\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"New York\">New York<\/a>, homeowner Adele Andaloro inherited the home of her parents when they died, and as she was in the process of preparing the home to sell it, the locks for her home suddenly changed. She discovered that squatters had moved into her house in February. She brought a locksmith to change the doors\u2019 locks, but police warned her that she could be arrested for changing locks due to the state law that does not allow the turning off of utilities, changing of locks, or removing the property of a person who claims to be a tenant.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI may end up in handcuffs today if a man shows up here and says I have illegally evicted him,\u201d Andaloro said to the news crew.<\/p>\n<p>She <a href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/queens-woman-arrested-trying-keep-210000522.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"was arrested\">was arrested<\/a> on charges of locking out squatters from her $1 million home in Queens.<\/p>\n<p>In another New York situation, 52-year-old Nadia Vitel was brutally murdered after two teenage squatters, Halley Tejada and Kensly Alston, allegedly beat her to death when she discovered them in her late mother\u2019s New York City apartment. When Vitel\u2019s family did not hear from her for several days, her son found her body in a duffel bag in the front closet. The suspects were later arrested in Pennsylvania when they were involved in a car crash while driving the victim\u2019s car.<\/p>\n<p>In Washington state, local Sikh Jaskaran Singh\u2019s home became occupied by a squatter who refused to pay. The homeowner has been barred from his $2 million home. Neighbors have <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MrAndyNgo\/status\/1771704024409997822\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"risen up to protest\">risen up to protest<\/a> the squatting.<\/p>\n<p>In Atlanta, neighborhoods have been invaded by squatters snatching up an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2024-01-25\/atlanta-landlords-confront-squatting-surge-in-vacant-rental-homes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"estimated 1,200 homes\">estimated 1,200 homes<\/a>, according to the National Rental Home Council trade group. Courts are backlogged and police are overwhelmed with the problem in Atlanta.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA thousand is crazy,\u201d popular podcaster Joe Rogan <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CollinRugg\/status\/1771736127034241467\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"said\">said<\/a>, \u201cThat means they know how to do it, and they know the loophole, and you need to tighten that loophole up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Also in Georgia, an active-duty Army officer, Lt. Col. Dahlia Daure, had put her home up for sale while away on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/army-investigating-chaplain-who-said-transgender-people-unqualified-to-serve\/\" title=\"Army Investigating Chaplain Who Said Transgender People \u2018Unqualified To Serve\u2019\">active duty<\/a> in Chicago. She <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsbradio.com\/news\/local\/squatter-evicted-home-active-duty-army-officer-arrested-after-channel-2-investigation\/S5J2ZFZZAZBNPJHP2I34HPANPY\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"returned to her home\">returned to her home<\/a> to discover that she couldn\u2019t get a squatter evicted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was quite alarming to find out that someone else had moved into my home,\u201d Daure <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/05\/19\/georgia-army-officer-returns-home-to-find-squatter-living-in-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"said\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The soldier was told by police that they couldn\u2019t do anything with her \u201ccivil matter,\u201d but she eventually discovered a landlord tenant law under Georgia Title 44 to convince the police to arrest the squatter for guns and drugs at the home.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/california\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"California\">California<\/a>, squatters took<a href=\"https:\/\/moneywise.com\/real-estate\/real-estate\/thanks-liberals-how-california-laws-allowed-squatters\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"taken over a Beverly Hills mansion\"> over a Beverly Hills mansion<\/a> a block from basketball star LeBron James\u2019s residence. Actor Morgan Gargiulo had a squatter standoff with the mansion\u2019s owner and police, claiming he had a lease. He held parties at the home five evenings a week, charging admission fees from $500 to $1,500. Gargiulo and his friends eventually struck a deal with the current owner to leave in February after legal pressure.<\/p>\n<p>While squatting is illegal in California, adverse possession can be claimed over a property after five years of uninterrupted occupancy.<\/p>\n<p>Not all squatters are finding luck in their possession of homes. He waited in his closet for the squatter to come back to his house and jumped up with his pistol, yelling at the man to get out of his house. When the squatter refused to leave, he fired a shot into the floor. The squatter called the police on the homeowner and then got arrested on trespassing and possession of drugs charges.<\/p>\n<p>Popular podcaster Tim Pool <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Mappy6984\/status\/1771158622187176108\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"warned\">warned<\/a> that the trend of stealing houses is going to lead to consequences for squatters.<\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen two guys show up and knock on your door and say, \u2018We\u2019re gonna tell you one time you need to leave.\u2019 That\u2019s all they are going to say.
