He accused the interpreter of stealing \u2064money and spreading lies. Ohtani clarified that he never placed bets on baseball or any sports and did not instruct others to do so. He maintained that he never asked anyone to place any bets, nor did he ever go<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailynews.com\/2024\/03\/25\/dodgers-shohei-ohtani-says-he-never-bet-on-sports-interpreter-ippei-mizuhara-stole-money-told-lies\/\"> <\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/dailynews.com\/2024\/03\/25\/dodgers-shohei-ohtani-says-he-never-bet-on-sports-interpreter-ippei-mizuhara-stole-money-told-lies\/\" title>\u201cthrough a bookmaker to bet on sports.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI never bet on baseball or any other sports or never have asked somebody to do that on my behalf,\u201d Ohtani said. \u201cAnd I have never gone through a bookmaker to bet on sports.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mizuhara was<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/shohei-ohtani-ippei-mizuhara-gambling-a86471f296e986ad65634574da504e45\"> fired by the Dodgers last week<\/a> after the news of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/sports\/mlb-investigating-shohei-ohtanis-interpreter-ippei-mizuhara-rcna144751\">at least $4.5 million<\/a> in wire transfers from Ohtani\u2019s bank account to a gambling operation was discovered. There were at least nine payments of $500,000 to a gambling operation in California. <\/p>\n<p>After first claiming he had paid his gambling debts at Ohtani\u2019s request, Mizuhara <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/story\/_\/id\/39808874\/ohtani-adamant-never-betting-sports-says-interpreter-stole-money\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>changed his story<\/a> and claimed Ohtani had no knowledge of the gambling debts and did not transfer money to bookmakers.
