The meeting \u2063aimed to address migration origins in Central American countries like Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Vice President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/kamala-harris\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Kamala Harris\">Kamala Harris<\/a> praised the work to address the root causes of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/immigration\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"migration\">migration<\/a> in a meeting with the president of Guatemala, saying conditions are improving in Central America even as immigration into the United States <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/immigration\/2935012\/illegal-immigration-increases-february-new-border-figures\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"surges\">surges<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor the past three years, I have led our administration\u2019s efforts to address the root causes of migration from northern Central America and to create what we have named the root causes strategy,\u201d she said. \u201cThis work is improving lives and livelihoods in the region and addressing the factors that drive people to migrate to the United States.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Standing alongside Bernardo Arevalo, who is in his first year of a four<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/niger-heads-to-polls-in-search-of-first-democratic-transition\/\" title=\"Niger heads to polls in search of first democratic transition\">-year term<\/a> as Guatemala\u2019s president, Harris said the U.S. is proud to stand with him following a free and fair election.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn particular, Mr. President, I commend you for your steadfast commitment to combat corruption,\u201d she said. \u201cAmerican business leaders need stability, predictability, and rule of law to make their investments in countries like Guatemala worthwhile.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The meeting was part of a mission Harris took on shortly after taking office to address the root causes of migration from Central American countries, including Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras.
