Meanwhile, Mangi&#8217;s history as a\u2062 corporate lawyer representing big pharmaceutical companies and accused \u2064monopolies could lead Democrats to oppose his\u2063 nomination. However, despite criticism, the AFL-CIO\u200c supports the confirmation of Mangi, \u2062highlighting his qualifications as\u2064 an appellate judge. Republicans oppose Biden&#8217;s nominee \u200bAdeel Mangi for his affiliations, while \u200bDemocrats \u2063might object\u2063 due to his corporate\u2064 legal background. Nevertheless,\u2063 the \u200bAFL-CIO\u2064 endorses Mangi&#8217;s confirmation, emphasizing his judicial\u200c qualifications.  <\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Republicans have opposed Biden judicial nominee Adeel Mangi over his links to anti-Israel and anti-cop groups. Now, Mangi\u2019s work as a high-powered corporate attorney for pharmaceutical giants and accused monopolists could turn Democrats against him.<\/p>\n<p>Mangi, President Joe Biden\u2019s pick for the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, is a partner at the firm Patterson Belknap Webb &#038; Tyler. In that role, he has defended major companies including Johnson &#038; Johnson and Hershey\u2019s against price-fixing allegations. These cases saw Mangi face off against some of the labor unions he\u2019s now counting on for support, and <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2024\/03\/21\/adeel-mangi-biden-conflicts-withdraw\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reportedly<\/a> helped him take home $4.4 million last year.<\/p>\n<p>That track record could make it difficult for some Democrats to vote for Mangi. Vulnerable Democratic Sens. Bob Casey (Pa.) and Sherrod Brown (Ohio) have touted their union <em>bona fides<\/em> and railed against corporations they\u2019ve accused of corporate greed. Casey serves on the Senate Health, Education, Labor &#038; Pensions Committee, which, under chairman Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.), hauled the CEOs of Johnson &#038; Johnson and other drug makers before a hearing earlier this year regarding &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sanders-manchin-sinema-kind-of-acting-like-republicans-arrogance-for-them-to-ignore-what-48-other-senators-want\/\" title=\"Sanders: Manchin, Sinema 'Kind of Acting Like Republicans' - 'Arrogance' for Them to Ignore What 48 Other Senators Want\">outrageously high prices<\/a>&#8221; of prescription drugs.<\/p>\n<p>In 2017, Mangi <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courtlistener.com\/docket\/6155385\/pfizer-inc-v-johnson-johnson\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">defended<\/a> Johnson &#038; Johnson against allegations that it schemed to block health insurers from purchasing cheaper alternatives to Remicade, which treats rheumatoid arthritis and Crohn\u2019s disease, according to court records. The Plumbers Local Union No. 200 and the International Union of Operating Engineers, both of which are affiliated with the AFL-CIO, joined a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/psaki-defends-treasury-secretary-janet-yellen-for-taking-money-from-citadel-wont-commit-to-recusal-in-gamestop-scandal-video\/\" title=\"Psaki Defends Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen For Taking Money From Citadel \u2013 Won\u2019t Commit to Recusal in GameStop Scandal (VIDEO)\">class action lawsuit<\/a> against Johnson &#038; Johnson over Remicade pricing in 2018. The drug company, which makes $4 billion a year from Remicade, settled the lawsuit last year.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;\u200b\u200bMr. Mangi\u2019s credentials and career demonstrate that he is imminently qualified [sic] to be an appellate judge and we urge his quick confirmation,&#8221; the AFL-CIO, the country\u2019s largest trade union, <a href=\"https:\/\/aflcio.org\/about\/advocacy\/legislative-alerts\/letter-supporting-nomination-adeel-mangi-court-appeals-third\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a> to senators last month.<\/p>\n<p>Mangi <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courtlistener.com\/docket\/6231778\/prescott-v-cvs-health-corporation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">represented<\/a> Johnson &#038; Johnson in a class action lawsuit that accused the company of fixing the price of insulin test strips. The lawsuit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courtlistener.com\/docket\/6231778\/1\/prescott-v-cvs-health-corporation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">alleged<\/a> Johnson &#038; Johnson and three other companies had &#8220;artificially inflated&#8221; prices of test strips, causing &#8220;consumers to overpay for these life-saving medical products.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mangi <a href=\"https:\/\/casetext.com\/case\/sidney-hillman-health-ctr-of-rochester-v-abbott-labs-abbvie-inc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">represented<\/a> Abbott Laboratories in a lawsuit filed by the Teamsters union, which accused the drug maker of illegally forcing doctors to prescribe its anti-seizure drug Depakote. In 2012, Abbott Laboratories pleaded guilty to federal charges that it illegally prescribed the drug to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/causes-of-renal-disease-and-tips-for-kidney-health\/\" title=\"Causes of Renal Disease and Tips for Kidney Health\">treat bipolar disorder<\/a>. A federal appeals court judge dismissed the Teamsters lawsuit against Abbott, ruling that the drug maker defrauded physicians rather than union members.<\/p>\n<p>Mangi has represented other controversial clients. In 2014, Mangi\u2019s firm <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbwt.com\/adeel-a-mangi\/news\/firm-wins-summary-judgment-for-the-hershey-company-in-major-antitrust-case\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">touted<\/a> its legal victory on behalf of The Hershey Company, which was sued for fixing chocolate prices with other confectioners. Hershey pleaded guilty to fixing chocolate prices in a landmark Canadian case in 2013. But Mangi and his law firm successfully argued that while Hersey fixed prices in Canada, it did not do so in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Mangi\u2019s defenders in the Senate and the labor movement may be unaware of his controversial client roster. The Senate Judiciary Committee required Mangi to detail his 10 &#8220;most significant&#8221; legal cases. He disclosed three cases involving Johnson &#038; Johnson, though not those in which the company was accused of fixing drug prices. Mangi also failed to disclose that he spoke at a conference in 2022 cosponsored by the Council on American-Islamic Relations, an anti-Israel activist group, the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2906704\/biden-judicial-pick-anti-israel-activists-event-sponsored-terrorism-tied-group\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans have unified against Mangi over his board position with a Rutgers University think tank that accuses Israel of genocide in Gaza, and <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/biden-administration\/historic-biden-judicial-nominee-sits-on-board-of-group-founded-by-cop-killing-domestic-terrorist\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">his role<\/a> with another group, the Alliance of Families for Justice, that hailed six <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/watch-ted-cruz-grills-biden-doj-nominee-for-allegedly-organizing-event-that-celebrated-cop-killers\/\" title=\"WATCH: Ted Cruz Grills Biden DOJ Nominee For Allegedly Organizing Event That Celebrated Cop Killers\">convicted cop killers<\/a> as &#8220;freedom fighters.&#8221;\t<\/p>\n<p>Democrats have largely rallied to defend Mangi, hailing him as &#8220;supremely qualified&#8221; and accusing Republicans of &#8220;Islamophobia.&#8221; But two Democrats\u2014Nevada Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto and West Virginia Sen.
