Former Rep. Ken Buck’s \u2064Criticism of House Republicans<\/h2>\n
Former Rep. Ken Buck<\/strong> (R-CO) expressed criticism of House Republicans\u2063 for prioritizing \u201cmessaging bills<\/a>\u201d over\u200b issues that \u200dUnited States voters have voiced their concern. Buck, who resigned\u2064 from Congress on Friday, specifically criticized<\/a> how Republicans in the House \u200bof\u2062 Representatives have been focused on impeaching members of the Biden administration<\/strong> ever since the party took the majority last year. He argued that Republicans in the House are having \u201cserious problems with setting priorities.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a very tragic circumstance in Ukraine,\u201d Buck told This Week<\/em>. \u201cWe have spiraling debt, all kinds of\u200d out-of-control problems, and we focus on messaging bills\u2062 that get \u200bus nowhere.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
Buck\u2019s resignation<\/strong> comes as the House Republican majority is shrinking greatly, with\u200c Rep.\u2062 Mike Gallagher (R-WI) also set to step down on April 19. Buck addressed the \u201cevaporating\u201d majority during his Sunday interview, arguing that\u2064 the House leadership is left to vote\u2063 on bipartisan \u200dlegislation<\/a>\u200c going forward.<\/p>\n
Voting Against Impeachment<\/h3>\n
Both Buck and Gallagher voted against the movement by\u200b House Republicans to\u2062 impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas<\/strong>, which\u2062 took place on Feb. 13. The vote narrowly passed 214-213, \u200bwith Rep. Tom McClintock (R-CA) joining Buck and Gallagher against the movement.<\/p>\n
Gallagher\u2019s resignation will bring the\u2063 Republican majority to 217-213 as of April 19, which is expected to go down even \u200dfurther after a special election for New York\u2019s 26th Congressional District seat, once held by former Democratic Rep. \u2062Brian Higgins, who resigned in February. The\u200d election for \u200bHiggin\u2019s former seat is expected to favor Democrats. As\u200c such, the Republican Party\u2019s majority would only be 217-214, meaning the GOP could \u2064only afford to \u2064lose one \u200cvote on any given measure \u2062to\u2063 pass the lower chamber.<\/p>\n
Critical\u2063 Voices<\/h3>\n
Several Republican lawmakers have also greatly criticized House\u2063 Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) for agreeing to pass a $1.2 trillion minibus legislation, with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene\u2063 (R-GA) filing \u200da motion\u200c to vacate the speaker. It \u200bcomes less than six months after Johnson replaced former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy in October of last year.<\/p>\n
