He was \u2062asked to account for why everyday Americans are bearing the cost\u2064 of healthcare for individuals residing in the \u200dcountry illegally\u2014questions posed by Wyoming Senator John Barrasso.<\/p>\n<p>Senator\u200c Barrasso highlighted the plight of \u2064urban centers swamped by the pressures of undocumented immigrants \u200btapping into already stretched health funds and services. He cited \u200cthe example of Denver Health, which \u200bin 2023, \u2062treated over\u2064 20,000 patients without legal status, as reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.finance.senate.gov\/hearings\/the-presidents-fiscal-year-2025-health-and-human-services-budget\">Becker&#8217;s Hospital Review<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Becerra \u2064was confronted with a direct\u200d enquiry: \u200b&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Can you please explain why it is the responsibility of hard-working American taxpayers to foot the bill for all of this care for people, nine million \u200bnow, from all across the world who have flooded their way\u2063 into the United States?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p>Attempting to respond, Becerra pointed to HHS&#8217;s mission to support healthcare facilities within its purview.
