This decision\u2064 comes just one year after the mayor&#8217;s plan to triple police presence downtown.<\/p>\n<p>Effective February\u2063 22, \u200ccalls received between 3 a.m. and 7 a.m. for\u2062 non-in-progress crimes such as theft, harassment, and criminal mischief will now be rerouted to the Telephone Reporting Unit. \u2063This unit operates from 7 a.m. until 3 a.m. the following day, allowing incidents occurring within the four-hour window to be collected\u200b for follow-up during the morning shift.<\/p>\n<p>To ensure accessibility to emergency services during these hours, the city\u2063 will \u2062also install blue phones that \u2062directly connect to emergency services outside all six police zones and\u2062 the Downtown Public \u2062Safety Center.<\/p>\n<p>While this \u200cpolicy change \u2064means that there will be 12 fewer officers on duty \u200ccitywide, Pittsburgh Police will\u200d continue to handle priority calls \u200d24\/7.
