This move will shift some \u200cof the costs to federal taxpayers.<\/p>\n<p>During Tuesday&#8217;s Joint Committee on Administrative Rules, \u2064officials\u200d from\u2063 the\u200c Illinois Department of \u2064Healthcare and Family Services announced the upcoming changes.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>Reviewing Eligibility for Health Care\u200c Services<\/h3>\n<p>&#8220;They are going to\u2064 be reviewing current members of \u200dthe migrant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/manchin-reportedly-outlines-demands-for-democrats-climate-change-child-tax-credit-plan\/\" title=\"Manchin Reportedly Outlines Demands For Democrats\u2019 Climate Change, Child Tax Credit Plan\">health care programs<\/a>, both 65 and over \u200dand as\u2062 we heard today from \u206442 to 64, to find out which of those people may actually qualify for either free market\u200b health care services, Obamacare if \u2063you will, or if they don&#8217;t \u200cthey may be eligible \u2064for either Medicare or Medicaid based on their age,&#8221; said DeWitte, a representative from the Center Center.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This decision has the potential to save up to $14 million in state tax \u200ddollars. If the age bracket is \u2062expanded to include those over 42, even more savings can be achieved.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>Savings and Impact<\/h3>\n<p>&#8220;They&#8217;re talking about 6,000 people, which\u2062 she said would be a savings of $14\u200d million \u2062and I&#8217;m \u200bsure &#8230; that \u200clower age\u200c bracket will probably\u2062 provide equal savings\u2062 if they\u2063 were \u2062able \u2063to \u2064move some of those folks off the migrant program,&#8221; said DeWitte,\u2062 R-St. Charles.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In 2020, Illinois taxpayers began subsidizing health care coverage for enrolled non-citizens over the age of 65.\u2063 This was expanded in 2021 to include enrolled \u200dnon-citizens over the age of\u2062 42. In November, the Illinois Legislative Audit Commission approved\u2062 a measure\u200c to investigate the\u2063 cost of migrant health\u2063 care subsidies.<\/p>\n<p>A report from HFS dated Feb. 13 revealed the per-person\u200b costs for\u200c different age groups in the health care programs. The total taxpayer cost\u200c from July \u20642022 to \u200cJune 2023 \u200cis $618.5 million.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>Positive Development for\u200c Taxpayers<\/h3>\n<p>State Sen. Bill Cunningham, D-Chicago, sees HFS&#8217;s announcement as a positive step \u200dtowards cost containment. &#8220;I think the department is using all the tools \u2063within their \u2063disposal to contain costs in this program,&#8221; Cunningham told The Center Square. &#8220;I think what they proposed today is very constructive.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The program is currently budgeted for $550\u2062 million,\u2064 but projected costs have pushed it\u200d closer to $770\u200c million. Governor J.B. \u200cPritzker has \u200bproposed spending $629 million on the issue for the upcoming fiscal year starting July 1.<\/p>\n<p> <\/p>\n<h2> What alternative options \u2062will\u200d be\u200d available for non-citizens to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/planned-parenthood-sues-south-dakota-over-abortion-pill-restriction\/\" title=\"Planned Parenthood Sues South Dakota Over Abortion Pill Restriction\">access health care services<\/a> after being removed from the taxpayer-subsidized \u2063health care plan<\/h2>\n<p><span>  The Governor\u2019s office, they are going to\u2064 be looking at removing folks who are not citizens of \u200cthe United States\u2064 from those programs,&#8221; said State Representative Norine \u2064Hammond.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This decision\u200b comes as a result \u200cof a financial strain on the state&#8217;s health care system. Currently, non-citizens who are over 65 years \u2063old and residing in Illinois are eligible for taxpayer-subsidized health care services. However, this has been placing a heavy burden\u200b on\u200b the state&#8217;s \u2064finances, with taxpayers shouldering\u200d the\u2064 majority of the cost.<\/p>\n<p>By removing non-citizens from \u200dthe \u2063taxpayer-subsidized health care plan, the Pritzker administration aims to \u2062alleviate some of the financial pressure on state taxpayers. The decision \u2064will save millions of dollars that can be redirected towards other important areas of\u2063 public expenditure.<\/p>\n<p>The change in \u2064eligibility \u200bwill predominantly affect non-citizens who are over\u2062 the age of 65 and are currently enrolled in the state&#8217;s migrant health \u2064care programs. These individuals will undergo a thorough review to determine\u2064 their citizenship status.
