Connecticut\u2019s Democratic Gov. Ned Lamont is pushing for a controversial \u200cchange to driver’s licenses. He wants licenses \u2063given to\u200c illegal aliens to look exactly like those given to legal residents. This comes after a\u200b recent election do-over in the state due to\u200d suspected voter fraud<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The current Connecticut Department\u2063 of Motor Vehicles policy is to label licenses as “Drive\u2062 Only” IDs, which cannot be used for voting. These\u200b licenses have a “DO” stamp on the front and clear information\u200d on the back stating their\u2063 ineligibility for voting purposes.<\/p>\n

However, Gov. Lamont wants to remove these \u200didentifiers because he disagrees with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who recently signed a law that does not\u2063 recognize licenses given to illegal immigrants.<\/p>\n

Lamont’s spokeswoman, Julia Bergman, stated, “Connecticut prides itself on being a welcoming state. The visual differences in the licenses unintentionally make Connecticut residents with varying immigration statuses\u200d vulnerable in hostile states.”<\/p>\n

Last year, Florida passed\u200b legislation refusing to recognize licenses from Connecticut and four\u2063 other states that allow illegal\u200c immigrants to obtain government-issued IDs.<\/p>\n

Republican\u200c Gov. Ron DeSantis argued, “Someone who is in\u2064 our country illegally and has violated our \u2062laws \u2062should not possess a government-issued ID which allows them access to state-funded services and other privileges afforded to lawful residents.”<\/p>\n

Concerns have been raised that Lamont’s proposed \u200cchanges could lead to voting\u200d fraud. Cara \u2063Gately, the Republican Registrar\u200b of Voters for\u2062 the town of Darien, expressed worries about\u200d the difficulty of determining voter eligibility, especially \u2062with same -day voter registration<\/a> in the state.<\/p>\n

Gately warned,\u2063 “If such language is removed, election officials \u200dand \u200cpoll workers may\u200d unknowingly and \u200derroneously accept applications from ineligible individuals, allowing them \u200cto vote in contradiction of state and federal \u200dlaw.”<\/p>\n

Republican State \u2064Rep. Tom O’Dea shared\u2064 similar concerns, questioning the removal of the “DO” stamp and the voting Disclaimer on the back of the licenses.<\/p>\n

O’Dea stated, “I think\u200c this is a bad idea, particularly coming on the heels of what went on in Bridgeport.”<\/p>\n

In January, Bridgeport\u2062 Democratic Mayor Joe Ganim won his \u200dprimary race\u2062 after a judge overturned the original results due to evidence\u2063 of mail ballot fraud<\/a>. Ganim was losing on election night but gained votes \u2062after a flood of absentee \u2063ballots arrived.<\/p>\n

Superior Court Judge William Clark \u200bruled that\u2064 the mishandling of ballots cast serious doubt on \u2064the primary election’s outcome. The\u200d judge also noted\u2062 a high\u2064 percentage\u200c of\u200b absentee ballots in\u200c districts connected to the two Democratic officials involved in the mishandling.<\/p>\n
