Bryan Steil\u2062 of Wisconsin, Virginia Foxx of \u2062North Carolina, Laurel Lee of Florida, and Mary Miller\u2062 of Illinois. Steil and Foxx chair \u2063the House Administration and Education and the Workforce Committees, respectively. <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-779490152\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-b8814d691fdeba511509baa9c2672634 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-b8814d691fdeba511509baa9c2672634\"><\/div>\n<p>As The\u200d Federalist\u2019s M.D. Kittle recently <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/02\/29\/feds-will-pay-students-your-tax-dollars-to-help-reelect-biden-in-latest-bidenbucks-scheme\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>, the Education Department issued\u200b a <a href=\"https:\/\/fsapartners.ed.gov\/knowledge-center\/library\/dear-colleague-letters\/2024-02-26\/use-federal-work-study-funds-voter-registration\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">memo<\/a> on Feb. 26, \u201cas a follow-up to a \u200c2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/fsapartners.ed.gov\/knowledge-center\/library\/dear-colleague-letters\/2022-04-21\/requirements-distribution-voter-registration-forms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u2018Dear Colleague\u2019 letter<\/a>, clarifying that Federal Work-Study (FWS) funds may\u200b be used to support \u2018broad-based get-out-the-vote activities, voter registration,\u200d providing\u2062 voter assistance at a polling \u2062place or through a voter hotline, \u2063or serving \u200cas a poll worker.&#8217;\u201d The agency also \u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/02\/27\/bidenbucks-laundered-through-education-department-target-likely-biden-voters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">released<\/a> a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www2.ed.gov\/documents\/press-releases\/student-voter-toolkit.pdf?emci=4c608cc8-ded4-ee11-85f9-002248223794&#038;emdi=0e9b3148-f0d4-ee11-85f9-002248223794&#038;ceid=3370209\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">toolkit<\/a>\u201d that includes guidelines for \u200cuniversities on how to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/stacey-abrams-calls-for-exemption-to-filibuster-to-pass-democrat-election-bills\/\" title=\"Stacey Abrams Calls For Exemption To Filibuster To Pass Democrat Election Bills\">increase voter registration<\/a> and turnout on their campuses.<\/p>\n<p>The recently announced policy is a shift from the \u2063agency\u2019s 2022 \u2063guidance, which explicitly\u2064 stated that public universities are prohibited from using FWS funds \u201cfor work involving \u2063partisan\u200c or nonpartisan political\u200b activity, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/feds-will-pay-students-your-tax-dollars-to-help-reelect-biden-in-latest-bidenbucks-scheme\/\" title=\"Students will receive financial assistance from the government to support Biden's reelection campaign, funded by taxpayers, in the new 'Bidenbucks' initiative\">including party-affiliated voter registration activities<\/a>.\u201d It\u2019s worth mentioning that college-age\u2063 voters (aged 18-29) broke for Democrat candidates over Republican ones by a <a href=\"https:\/\/circle.tufts.edu\/latest-research\/millions-youth-cast-ballots-decide-key-2022-races\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">nearly 2-to-1 margin<\/a> in the 2022 midterms. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Department of Education\u2019s \u2026 currently\u2062 stated position \u200cabout the use of \u200dFWS funds under the Higher Education Act of 1965 and regulations is at odds with the Department\u2019s interpretation just two years ago, despite no underlying changes to the regulations or law governing the FWS program,\u201d the Republicans\u2019 letter reads. \u201cIn addition to\u2063 this action appearing to be partisan and political, your new interpretation\u200c raises serious\u200c legal questions, and we \u2063urge the Administration to retract its recent memorandum.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The new policy comes as\u200d part of the agency\u2019s attempt to comply with\u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/presidential-actions\/2021\/03\/07\/executive-order-on-promoting-access-to-voting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Executive Order 14019<\/a>, an overreaching\u2063 directive signed by Biden in March 2021 that instructed hundreds of federal agencies to <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/06\/23\/yes-biden-is-hiding-his-plan-to-rig-the-2022-midterm-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">interfere<\/a> in the electoral\u2062 process by using\u200d U.S. taxpayer money to boost voter registration and get-out-the-vote activities. More specifically, federal departments were told to collaborate with so-called \u201cnonpartisan third-party organizations\u201d that have been \u201capproved\u201d by \u2063the administration to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-republicans-hold-the-power-to-stop-bidens-federal-election-rigging\/\" title=\"House Republicans Hold The Power To Stop Biden\u2019s Federal Election Rigging\">supply \u201cvoter registration services<\/a> on agency\u200b premises.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-26ab995a2a15927111c4cfe14b66ed19 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-26ab995a2a15927111c4cfe14b66ed19\"><\/div>\n<p>Despite the administration\u2019s attempt to <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/10\/21\/the-doj-is-hiding-information-about-bidens-attempts-to-interfere-in-u-s-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">stonewall<\/a> requests for \u2014 and <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/09\/12\/bombshell-doj-conceals-records-about-bidens-use-of-federal-agencies-to-influence-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">heavily \u2064redact<\/a> \u2014 documents related \u2064to the order\u2019s implementation, conservative media outlets and good government groups have obtained communications revealing that many of the supposedly \u201cnonpartisan\u201d\u2062 groups colluding with federal\u200d agencies on voter \u2064registration efforts are <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/06\/08\/report-biden-is-coordinating-with-aclu-other-left-wing-groups-to-interfere-in-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">extremely left-wing<\/a>, such as\u200d the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/american-civil-liberties-union-aclu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ACLU<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/demos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Demos<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>House Republicans noted \u200dhow the Election Assistance Commission (EAC) is \u2063the only federal agency authorized by Congress to \u2063handle issues related to election \u200cadministration and that even if Congress had \u201cauthorized taxpayer dollars to be used for get-out-the-vote activities, it likely would have done\u200b so in a clear way in [the Help America Vote Act of 2002], not through broad language like \u200cthe FWS\u2019s \u2018public interest\u2019 requirement.\u201d They also highlighted that the EAC \u201chas ruled\u200c that HAVA funds cannot be used for get-out-the-vote activities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor Americans to have confidence not only in their elections but also in their federal government, taxpayer dollars should not be used for political ends like get-out-the-vote activities or targeted voter registration drives,\u201d the letter reads. \u201cAs we\u200c approach a presidential election this November, we must take steps to bolster voters\u2019 confidence in our election systems and\u200d processes so they can have faith in\u200b the \u200cresults. Unfortunately, the Department\u2019s plan to use \u200cFWS funds \u200bto support the Administration\u2019s campaign efforts seems designed to heighten voters\u2019 already existing\u200d distrust in the system in a time \u2062when\u2064 we can least\u200d afford it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As part of\u2064 their inquiry into Biden\u2019s election interference, House Republicans requested Cardona provide their committees with \u201call internal memos, reports, and information that\u200b discuss\u201d the agency\u2019s issuance of the February memo, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/jan-6-committee-seeks-records-from-15-tech-platforms\/\" title=\"Jan. 6 Committee Seeks Records From 15 Tech Platforms\">including records related<\/a> to\u2063 \u201crequests to review and clarify the Department\u2019s position with respect to employment \u200bof FWS students in voter registration activities by public entities.\u201d The committees additionally demanded Cardona \u2063disclose whether the department\u2019s February memo is \u201ca clarification of\u201d or replaces the agency\u2019s\u2062 2022 memo;\u2063 how the agency defines \u201cpolitical activity\u201d; and who\u2063 the \u2064agency \u201cconsult[ed] with or [sought] guidance from in promulgating and developing\u201d the February \u200cmemo. <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-009d99c33580698aa224f2a4b502a3c8 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-009d99c33580698aa224f2a4b502a3c8\"><\/div>\n<p>House Republicans have also requested the Education Department provide committee members with an in-person briefing \u201cno later than two weeks after the date of this \u200bletter\u201d and provide the requested answers and documents by March 26. \u2064 <\/p>\n<p>Speaking\u200c with The Federalist, Steil said\u200d the Education Department\u2019s FWS policy is \u2064just \u201cthe latest effort by \u2062the Biden Administration to influence our \u2062elections\u201d and emphasized that \u201ctaxpayer dollars \u2064should never be \u2064used by the Administration for get-out-the-vote efforts, registration \u2064drives, or any other partisan purpose.\u201d Foxx echoed similar sentiments, saying \u2064Biden\u2019s flailing \u2064approval rating is\u200b \u201cwhy\u2063 he\u2019s resorted to misusing the Federal Work-Study program to turn out new voters for his own personal\u200c gain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s about as crooked\u2062 as it gets.
