About 12% of Democrats in North Carolina, a Republican-leaning battleground state, ⁤voted “no‌ preference”⁤ on Tuesday, ‌compared to 2% in the 2020 election.

Exit polls also reported concerning trends for Biden, including more Republican primary voters than not continuing to disregard his win last cycle as illegitimate and immigration consistently being among⁣ respondents’ top policy priorities. On the flip side, the same⁤ exit polls found⁤ problems for Trump, with many GOP respondents telling pollsters ‌they would not necessarily cast⁣ a ballot for the party’s nominee in November. That phenomenon was more pronounced among Haley’s ‍base.

Meanwhile, the Biden campaign projected confidence, ‍despite losing American Samoa to little-known Maryland entrepreneur Jason Palmer,⁢ 51 votes to the president’s 40.

“Tonight’s results⁤ leave the American people with a clear choice: ⁤Are we going to keep moving forward or will we allow Donald‌ Trump to drag us backwards into⁢ the chaos, division,⁤ and darkness that defined his term in office?” Biden wrote in ‌a statement.

Marquee races: California’s Senate seat and ⁤North Carolina’s ‍governor ⁣mansion

Since the Republican and Democratic presidential primary races are relatively predictable, Super Tuesday’s down-ballot races became more intriguing, according to University ⁤of South Carolina College of Information and Communications dean emeritus⁢ and North Carolina-retired Charles Bierbauer.

“California’s jungle⁣ U.S. Senate primary,” said Eric Ostermeier, Smart Politics author and founder and Minnesota Historical Election Archive curator, as an⁢ example. “Few expect a Republican to win this seat in a general election, but how much attention — and ‌funding —⁣ will Republican Steve Garvey receive?”

California’s primary process dictates that the top two placegetters proceed to November’s⁤ general election, ⁣irrespective of their party.

Colby College government professor⁣ emeritus Sandy Maisel added the performance of Garvey, a former baseball first baseman, means more centrist Rep. President Donald Trump’s‌ dominant performance in the Republican primary ⁢contests puts him ‍on the verge of becoming ⁢the GOP nominee for the 2024 presidential election. However, other significant developments⁤ and races also took place on Super Tuesday, shaping the political⁢ landscape for the upcoming ‍general ‍election, as well as for Congress and⁤ other down-ballot races.

One major ‍takeaway‌ from Super⁢ Tuesday is the apparent ⁤decline of⁣ Nikki Haley’s political star. Both President⁤ Joe Biden and Donald Trump performed reasonably well,⁤ even though they lost in some states. While Trump ‌has‌ not yet⁣ reached the required number of⁢ delegates for the Republican nomination, Haley’s path forward with the GOP seems uncertain. Her campaign has not organized ‍any events or paid for advertising post-Tuesday,‌ and there ⁤are no indications of an imminent endorsement. Despite⁤ this, Haley’s team ‌remains determined ⁢to proceed, commemorating her victory in Vermont. However, there are concerns about⁤ unity within the party, as many Republican primary voters ⁢still express ⁤deep concerns about Donald Trump, which Haley’s campaign believes is contrary to the ⁢unity needed for ⁣success.

Another significant ⁢takeaway is the existence of cracks in the support for both Biden and ⁢Trump. This could pose obstacles for ⁣either or both candidates in the future. ⁢Fissures in the Biden coalition were observed in states ⁢where voters could choose “uncommitted” or “no⁣ preference.” In North Carolina, a Republican-leaning battleground state, a ⁣noteworthy 12% of⁢ Democrats voted ⁣”no preference,” ⁤compared to 2% in the 2020 election. Additionally, exit‍ polls revealed troubling trends for Biden, including some Republican primary voters disregarding⁢ his ⁤win as illegitimate and focusing on immigration as a top policy priority. On the other hand, there were also concerns for Trump, as GOP respondents expressed uncertainty about casting a ballot for the party’s nominee in November. This phenomenon was particularly evident among Nikki Haley’s base of supporters. Despite these challenges, the Biden campaign projected confidence and emphasized the ⁤choice between moving forward or going backward into chaos and division under Trump’s leadership.

Lastly, ⁣two marquee races⁣ captured attention on Super Tuesday: California’s Senate seat and North Carolina’s governor mansion. ⁢These races are⁣ crucial in ⁤determining the balance⁣ of power in Congress and state governance. While these races were ⁤ongoing, their outcomes ‍will have significant ramifications for the ⁤political landscape, with potential implications‍ for the general election.

Super Tuesday 2024 had ⁤far-reaching implications beyond the race for the 2024 GOP nomination. The dominant performance of ⁢Donald Trump,⁣ combined with the uncertain‍ future of Nikki Haley’s campaign, sets the stage for an intriguing battle within the Republican Party. Additionally, the cracks in support for Biden and Trump reflect some underlying ⁣challenges and divisions that both candidates ⁣will need to overcome. As the primary season continues and the general election looms, it is essential⁣ to closely monitor the outcomes of marquee races like California’s Senate seat and North Carolina’s governor mansion, as they will shape the course of American politics in the coming years.

President Donald Trump’s strong performance in the Super Tuesday Republican primaries positions him just a few delegates shy of securing the 2024 GOP nomination.
