These charges add to the\u200d corruption allegations that the New Jersey Democrat is already \u2062facing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Menendez<\/strong> has pleaded not \u2062guilty to previous charges \u200dof <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/reports-facebook-gave-3m-to-ariz-officials-to-boost-democrat-vote\/\" title=\"Reports: Facebook gave M to Ariz. officials to boost \u2018Democrat vote\u2019\">accepting large sums<\/a> of money from businessmen in exchange for impeding law enforcement \u200dinvestigations and acting as an \u2064illegal agent for the Egyptian government.<\/p>\n<p>In the latest \u200bindictment, \u2062federal prosecutors in Manhattan revealed that <strong>Menendez<\/strong>&#8216;s\u200d former lawyers had informed them in meetings last year that he was unaware until 2022 of mortgage and car payments made by \u200btwo businessmen on \u200cbehalf of his wife. When he\u2064 eventually learned about these payments, he believed they were loans.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;In truth and in fact, and as <strong>Menendez<\/strong> well knew, <strong>Menendez<\/strong> had learned of both the mortgage company payment and the car payments prior to\u2063 2022, \u200dand they \u2062were not loans, but\u2062 bribe payments,&#8221; prosecutors wrote.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Menendez<\/strong>&#8216;s current lawyers at law firm Paul Hastings have not yet responded to\u200b requests for comment.
