Smith is attempting to prove Trump violated the law by contesting the 2020 results. Oral arguments are scheduled for late\u200b April, which means it \u2062could be until after \u2064this coming\u2063 election that the case in Washington is \u2063able to resume, \u200cat which point it\u2019s possible Trump will \u200cbe president again\u200d and\u2063 thereby moves the Justice Department to drop the charges altogether.<\/p>\n<p>Reaction from Trump\u2019s bloodthirsty opponents in the media has been nothing short of\u2062 hysterical. \u201c[W]ith each delay,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/02\/28\/us\/politics\/trumps-immunity-supreme-court-delay-strategy.html\">wrote<\/a> The New York Times\u2019 \u200cAlan Feuer, \u200d\u201cthe odds\u2064 increase that\u200d voters will not get a \u200dchance to hear \u200cthe evidence that Mr. Trump sought to subvert the\u200b last election before they decide whether to back him\u200b in the current one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Excuse me, what?! Voters won\u2019t get a chance to hear that Trump tried to steal the election?! \u200cUnconscionable!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On MSNBC, Chris Hayes channeled his inner actress\u2064 to\u200d berate the \u201cMAGA-majority of the Trump-created court\u201d for \u201cgiv[ing] \u2064 him what he wanted.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-ddfa7c53ed3f32cb2adfb564768dcaad fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-ddfa7c53ed3f32cb2adfb564768dcaad\"><\/div>\n<p>Hayes\u2019s \u200bcolleague and\u2063 doppelganger Rachel Maddow called the court\u2019s decision a\u200d deliberate delay tactic \u2062\u201cto help your political \u2062friend, your partisan\u200d patron.\u201d So\u2026 \u200cSmith <em>shouldn\u2019t<\/em> have\u2063 asked the Supreme Court to resolve\u200b the dispute?<\/p>\n<p>Either way,\u2063 it\u2019s laughable that any delay in the proceedings would somehow starve the electorate of its \u2064rightful opportunity to hear for the one billionth time how Trump nearly\u200d ended the world\u2019s longest running\u200c experiment in self-governance.<\/p>\n<p>Trust me,\u2063 media. After \u2063hearing from you and Democrats \u200bnonstop\u2064 for three years that Trump\u2063 and \u201cMAGA Republicans\u201d serve as the greatest \u201cthreat to democracy\u201d since\u2064 the \u2064Cold \u2063War, voters\u200d have received the message.<\/p>\n<p>Since Jan. \u20646, 2021, a date cherished by Washington journalists \u2064more than their \u2063own birthdays, there have been\u2064 countless congressional <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/07\/13\/jan-6-committee-avoids-probing-security-failures-as-hearing-finally-covers-capitol-riot\/\">hearings<\/a> about Trump\u2019s \u201cthreat to democracy,\u201d; a presidential address by Joe Biden on Trump\u2019s \u201cthreat to \u2062democracy\u201d (complete with <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/09\/02\/bidens-democracy-lecture-reminded-americans-how-relentlessly-democrats-undermine-it\/\">a charming\u200d blood-red backdrop<\/a>); multiple \u2064attempts to remove Trump\u2019s name <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/02\/08\/what-to-expect-from-the-supreme-court-in-trumps-fight-to-appear-on-the-colorado-ballot\/\">from voter ballots<\/a> because he\u2019s a \u201cthreat to democracy\u201d; two criminal <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/02\/20\/everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-motions-to-disqualify-get-trump-prosecutor-fani-willis\/\">prosecutions<\/a> of Trump related to being\u2063 a \u201cthreat to democracy,\u201d a national <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/10\/03\/merrick-garlands-60-minutes-interview-was-pure-political-propaganda\/\">news interview<\/a> \u200d with Attorney General Merrick Garland on Trump\u2019s \u201cthreat to democracy,\u201d accompanied by several \u200dmore press\u200b conferences on the same \u2063topic; and my personal \u200bfavorite: legions of weeping reporters who remain beside themselves that voters are still \u2063willing to support Trump, despite being a \u201cthreat \u200cto democracy.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-c1b8662f8e442385f7f11c7275a42e2d fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-c1b8662f8e442385f7f11c7275a42e2d\"><\/div>\n<p>If all of that hasn\u2019t\u200c resulted in the \u2063intended effect, I\u2019m\u200c not sure what they\u2019re still searching for.\u2062 The issue is evidently not something that\u2064 consumes voter attention the way it does reporters who were jostled around at the Capitol on Jan. 6. Or maybe, just maybe, voters \u2063sense something a little \u200doff about Democrats \u2062bemoaning threats to democracy while trying to throw their political opposition in prison. The media has made sure that every American is\u200c well aware of the allegations and controversies surrounding\u2064 the former president.<\/p>\n<p>So, forgive me if I find it hard to believe that a delay in one case will somehow prevent\u2063 the American people \u2064from hearing about Trump&#8217;s alleged attempts to steal the election. The media has been relentless in\u200b their coverage, to the\u2062 point\u200c where it has become exhausting for many Americans.<\/p>\n<p>What is truly concerning about the reaction to the Supreme\u200d Court&#8217;s ruling is the lack of faith in the justice system and the assumption that Trump is guilty without \u2062due process. The court has agreed to take up the question of whether a former president can claim immunity from criminal prosecution, which is a \u200dlegitimate\u2063 legal issue that\u200d deserves careful \u2063consideration.<\/p>\n<p>Instead of allowing \u200cthe legal process to play out and presenting their evidence in court, Trump&#8217;s opponents have resorted to character assassination and fearmongering.
