Steve Womack (R-AR.), who is on \u200cthe subcommittee\u2062 handling funding for the IRS. &#8220;We got another\u200d six, \u2063those are the more problematic ones. We&#8217;ve still\u200b got a few issues that we&#8217;re divided \u200bon, but it&#8217;s what we\u200d do. We \u2062negotiate back\u200b and forth and find\u2064 some\u2062 agreement.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Negotiators on\u200d Capitol \u200dHill have been\u200c mostly tight-lipped about the progress \u2064of the more \u2064difficult six bills, but they have acknowledged the difficulties in\u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/government-shutdown-in-focus-as-white-house-pushes-congress-for-stopgap-spending-bill\/\" title=\"White House urges Congress for stopgap spending bill amidst government shutdown.\">finding common\u2063 ground<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>House Speaker Mike \u2064Johnson (R-LA) has been under intense pressure to secure \u200bpolicy wins for hardline Republicans. Mike Simpson (R-ID) mentioned that the bill for \u2062the Interior Department,\u200b which he \u200doversees, achieved some important wins. However,\u2062 the larger and more partisan package was cut.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A lot of stuff got dropped out, as we \u200cknew it would, \u200band everybody knew it would, but\u2064 they \u200bwant to \u200dmake a statement \u200don the floor,\u2062 and that&#8217;s okay,&#8221; Simpson told reporters. &#8220;But the Democrats were\u2064 never going to agree with a lot of those things. But I think we got some good provisions. So did Democrats, frankly. That&#8217;s\u200d kind of the nature of a compromise.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Leaders in both chambers were able \u2063to\u200c agree on \u2063a stopgap measure earlier this week, which was signed\u200d by President Joe Biden on Friday, avoiding a \u2064shutdown for an additional week.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement\u2064 includes a focus on\u2064 funding \u200cthe departments of Agriculture, Commerce, Energy, Housing and Urban Development, Interior, Justice, Transportation, and\u2064 Veterans Affairs by March 8.
