Smith is\u200c attempting to prove Trump violated the law by contesting the 2020 results. \u200bOral arguments are scheduled for late April, which means it\u2062 could \u200cbe until after this coming election that\u200c the case in Washington is able to\u200d resume, at which point\u200d it\u2019s possible Trump will be president\u200b again \u200band thereby moves the Justice \u200dDepartment to drop the charges \u200baltogether.<\/p>\n<p>Reaction from\u200b Trump\u2019s bloodthirsty opponents\u200b in the media has been\u200d nothing short of hysterical. \u201c[W]ith each delay,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/02\/28\/us\/politics\/trumps-immunity-supreme-court-delay-strategy.html\">wrote<\/a> \u2064The New\u200d York Times\u2019 \u2064Alan Feuer, \u201cthe odds increase that voters will not get a chance to hear the evidence that Mr. Trump sought to subvert \u200dthe last election before \u2064they decide whether to back \u200chim in the current one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Excuse me, what?! Voters won\u2019t get a \u2064chance to\u2063 hear that\u2063 Trump\u200d tried to steal the election?! Unconscionable!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On MSNBC, Chris Hayes channeled his inner actress to berate the \u201cMAGA-majority of the Trump-created court\u201d for \u201cgiv[ing] him what \u2064he \u2062wanted.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-516cba1d22ec868dec51634044a808d9 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-516cba1d22ec868dec51634044a808d9\"><\/div>\n<p>Hayes\u2019s colleague and doppelganger Rachel Maddow\u2063 called the court\u2019s decision a deliberate delay tactic\u2062 \u201cto\u200b help your\u2064 political friend, your\u2062 partisan\u200b patron.\u201d So\u2026\u200d Smith <em>shouldn\u2019t<\/em> \u2064have asked the Supreme Court to resolve the dispute?<\/p>\n<p>Either way, it\u2019s laughable that any delay in\u2062 the proceedings would somehow starve the electorate of its\u2064 rightful\u2062 opportunity to hear for the \u2063one\u200b billionth\u2063 time how\u200d Trump nearly ended the world\u2019s\u200d longest running experiment in self-governance.<\/p>\n<p>Trust me, media. After\u2062 hearing from you and \u200dDemocrats \u200bnonstop for three years that\u200b Trump \u2064and \u201cMAGA Republicans\u201d\u200c serve as\u2063 the\u200b greatest \u201cthreat \u2062to democracy\u201d since \u2064the Cold War, voters have received the message.<\/p>\n<p>Since \u200bJan. 6, \u200d2021, a \u200bdate cherished by \u200cWashington journalists more than\u200c their own birthdays, there have been countless\u200c congressional <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/07\/13\/jan-6-committee-avoids-probing-security-failures-as-hearing-finally-covers-capitol-riot\/\">hearings<\/a> about Trump\u2019s \u201cthreat\u200c to democracy,\u201d; \u200da presidential address by Joe Biden on\u2063 Trump\u2019s \u201cthreat\u200b to democracy\u201d (complete with <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/09\/02\/bidens-democracy-lecture-reminded-americans-how-relentlessly-democrats-undermine-it\/\">a charming blood-red backdrop<\/a>); multiple\u200b attempts to remove Trump\u2019s name <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/02\/08\/what-to-expect-from-the-supreme-court-in-trumps-fight-to-appear-on-the-colorado-ballot\/\">from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/cma-board-limits-morgan-wallens-award-eligibility-excluded-from-the-top-prize\/\" title=\"CMA Board Limits Morgan Wallen\u2019s Award Eligibility, Excluded From The Top Prize\">voter ballots<\/a><\/a> because he\u2019s a \u201cthreat to democracy\u201d; two criminal <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/02\/20\/everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-motions-to-disqualify-get-trump-prosecutor-fani-willis\/\">prosecutions<\/a> of Trump \u2064related to being a \u201cthreat to democracy,\u201d\u200b a national <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/10\/03\/merrick-garlands-60-minutes-interview-was-pure-political-propaganda\/\">news interview<\/a> with Attorney General Merrick Garland on Trump\u2019s \u201cthreat \u2063to democracy,\u201d accompanied\u2063 by \u200cseveral more press conferences on the same\u2062 topic; and my personal favorite: legions\u2063 of weeping reporters who remain beside themselves that voters are still willing\u2062 to\u200d support Trump, despite being a\u2063 \u201cthreat to democracy.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-aceee1eb76275c43cc89ef9221129138 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-aceee1eb76275c43cc89ef9221129138\"><\/div>\n<p>If all of that hasn\u2019t resulted in the intended effect, I\u2019m not \u200dsure what they\u2019re still searching for. The issue is evidently not something\u2063 that consumes voter attention the \u200cway it does reporters \u2064who were jostled around at the Capitol on Jan. 6. Or maybe, just maybe, \u2063voters sense something a little \u200doff about Democrats bemoaning \u2062threats to democracy while trying to\u2064 throw their \u200cpolitical \u200bopposition \u200din\u200b prison. Special Counsel Jack Smith had requested that the Supreme\u2062 Court fast-track a ruling on whether a former president \u200dcan claim total\u2064 immunity from criminal prosecution for actions taken while \u2063in office. The ruling could potentially deny voters the\u2063 chance to\u200c hear arguments regarding Trump&#8217;s\u200d alleged attempt \u2062to steal the\u2062 2020 \u2063election.<\/p>\n<p>However,\u200b there are those\u200c who \u200dfind\u2062 this assertion \u2062ridiculous\u2064 and are mocking the media for actually making such claims. The Supreme Court has agreed to take up \u200dthe question\u2062 generated by \u2062Smith&#8217;s criminal case against Trump\u2062 in Washington. Since\u200b the events\u2064 of January\u2062 6,\u2063 2021, there have been\u2062 numerous congressional hearings about Trump&#8217;s alleged threat\u200d to democracy.\u2064 Therefore, it is\u2063 unlikely that any delay in the proceedings would prevent voters from hearing about Trump&#8217;s actions.<\/p>\n<p>In conclusion, the Supreme Court&#8217;s ruling on Trump&#8217;s immunity\u2062 has generated\u2063 outrage among\u2064 some. However, the suggestion that this ruling denies voters the opportunity\u2062 to hear about Trump&#8217;s alleged\u200d actions \u200dis unfounded.
