GOP chapter claims the entrance fee will help cover the $200,000 cost of hosting the district\u2019s three-day primary starting Friday and help build donor cultivation in Washington.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cWe are on \u200cthe hook to pay for\u2062 this entire primary,\u201d D.C. GOP Chairman Patrick Mara said in an interview with the Washington Examiner \u2062at the\u200b Madison Hotel.\u2064 \u201cThe city\u2019s\u2062 not paying for it. We\u2019re receiving no \u200chelp. GOP to move up its scheduled June 4 primary. Democrats in Washington will still vote on June \u200c4.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIf we had kept \u200dour election on June\u200d 4 \u2026 the city would \u200bhave paid for everything,\u201d Mara said. \u201cWe would have lost 10 of our delegates. This isn\u2019t\u2063 like \u2062some sort of cool vanity thing. \u2062This is, like, we had to move \u2062this primary \u200cup.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The RNC is\u200d scheduled for July 15, meaning the deadline to host\u2062 a\u2062 primary falls on\u2063 May 31.<\/p>\n<p>The D.C. GOP primary will award 19 \u200cdelegates to \u2064a\u2062 candidate who \u200creceives more than 50% of the district-wide vote. If no candidate \u2063reaches more than \u206250%, delegates are awarded on\u2063 a proportional basis for candidates who receive 15% of the\u200c certified district-wide vote.<\/p>\n<p>Haley\u2019s campaign was at\u2062 first perplexed \u200bwhen\u200d the Washington Examiner asked about the $5 entrance fee Thursday evening. The campaign later followed up Friday afternoon to clarify that the event was free \u200bto supporters with \u200dan\u2063 Eventbrite link.<\/p>\n<p>Mara claimed the campaign knew there would be a fee for some attendees.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThey didn\u2019t like it,\u201d Mara said when asked about \u200cconversations with the Haley campaign. \u201cI don\u2019t \u200bblame them for\u2063 not liking it, \u2062right \u2026 but we\u2019re like, \u2018What are \u2062we supposed\u2062 to do?&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Several attendees at the rally Friday said they were not charged the entrance fee.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cI\u2019ve been giving to her campaign for a long time,\u201d said Karyl Savageau, \u206380, a retired registered nurse who voted \u200dfor Haley on Friday. \u201cAnd it \u2063was a register \u2063(link), and it was\u200b a zero (entrance fee).\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI did not pay, I just got a\u2062 free ticket,\u201d said Rose Kesselman, 22, a graduate student at George Washington University.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cHer\u2062 operation is exceedingly well organized, I\u2019ve been very impressed,\u201d said\u200c Doris, 80, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-files-motion-seeking-to-prevent-doj-access-to-mar-a-lago-records-until-special-master-appointed\/\" title=\"Trump Files Motion Seeking to Prevent DOJ Access to Mar-a-Lago Records Until \u2018Special Master\u2019 Appointed\">retired lawyer<\/a> \u200cand\u2064 D.C. \u200cresident who declined to share her \u200clast name. \u201cI think I got the invitation because I\u2019ve been a donor \u2062online, and they\u200b know how to milk that for sure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that that\u2019s kosher within that realm,\u201d D.C. resident\u200b David Krucoff said about\u2064 the local GOP chapter fundraising.\u2062 \u201cI gave D.C.
