The Los Angeles Police\u2064 Department (LAPD) \u2064is hiring illegal \u200cborder crossers with Deferred Action for \u200dChildhood Arrivals (DACA) status and equipping them with guns to police American citizens in California.<\/strong><\/p>\n

President Barack \u2064Obama\u2019s\u2064 2012 \u2062DACA order indefinitely \u200ddelays the\u200b deportation of illegal border crossers<\/a> who enter the United\u2064 States claiming to \u2062be minors. Recipients do not start\u2064 becoming U.S. citizens unless they apply for a\u2062 green card. That is why many seek \u200bendless DACA renewals that \u200dallow them to continue working and\u2062 living in the States\u2064 while still \u2062foreign citizens and \u2062admitted border lawbreakers.<\/p>\n

Until recently, California only allowed U.S. \u2064citizens and lawful permanent \u2063residents<\/a> in the process of obtaining citizenship to serve\u200c as law \u2062enforcement. In 2022, \u200bthe Democrat \u2062legislature passed a law<\/a> \u2063authorizing\u200c any of the hundreds of thousands of illegal border crossers<\/a>, including DACA recipients, who obtain work\u2063 authorization to join police forces across the state. <\/p>\n
While\u200b some cities like Sacramento<\/a> refused to hire illegal border crossers\u200b due to concerns \u200babout gun law violations, LAPD handed jobs and firearms to \u2064nearly a dozen\u200c DACA\u200c aliens. Capt. Robin Petillo told CalMatters\u2062 <\/a>these illegal border crossers \u200dwill \u201cpossess department-issued firearms on and off duty.\u201d The department also\u200c plans<\/a> to\u200c give jobs to illegally present foreigners who are currently in police training. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve tried to carve just\u200d what is necessary for \u200bDACA, \u200cand\u200d these individuals be \u200dtreated on the\u2062 same basis of which non-DACA recipients are, as to the possession of a department firearm and its use,\u201d Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore told\u200b ABC 7.<\/a><\/p>\n
The Second\u2062 Amendment states it is \u201cthe right\u2063 of the people to keep and bear arms.\u201d \u201cThe people,\u201d according to American\u200d court precedent<\/a>, refers \u2062to U.S. citizens only. \u200d <\/p>\n

The 1968 Gun Control Act<\/a>, passed by a \u200d Democrat \u2062trifecta<\/a>, \u2063also \u2064prohibits illegally present foreign citizens from\u2062 possessing firearms and ammunition. The Fifth Circuit Court Of Appeals ruled in 2017<\/a> that DACA does not\u200c exempt illegal border crossers from that gun law. \u2063 <\/p>\n
An exception in the 1968 law<\/a>, however, allows for illegal border crossers to possess guns \u201cfor the use\u2064 of, the United States or \u2062any department or agency thereof or any State \u200dor any \u200cdepartment, agency, \u200bor political subdivision thereof.\u201d That means this\u200b federal provision technically provides any local or state government office, even if they don\u2019t have a law like California\u2019s, to arm illegal border crossers.<\/p>\n
So in the case of the LAPD, a criminal foreign citizen who doesn\u2019t\u200d have the constitutionally secured right to\u2063 bear arms but was hired\u2064 by \u2064a U.S. police\u200d department could arrest and even disarm a U.S. citizen who does have \u2062Second Amendment rights.\u2063 <\/p>\n
Under President Joe Biden and Democrats, illegal \u200cborder crossers \u200caren\u2019t just getting jobs in local police\u200b departments, they are being\u2063 rewarded for breaking U.S. laws with free transportation<\/a>, shelter<\/a>, and prepaid debit cards<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The case of\u200c United States v. Arrieta that DACA recipients are considered unlawfully present in the United States and therefore prohibited \u200cfrom possessing firearms.\u2063 This raises serious concerns about the decision to arm illegal border crossers with DACA status in \u2063the LAPD.<\/p>\n
Allowing individuals who are\u200d not \u2063U.S. citizens and who are in the country illegally to serve as police\u200d officers undermines\u2062 the rule \u200dof law and \u200dthe integrity of our law enforcement agencies. It sends\u200b the message that the enforcement of immigration laws is \u2062not a priority,\u2062 and that those who have broken our immigration laws\u2064 can be rewarded with positions of authority within our communities.<\/p>\n
In addition,\u200c the decision to\u2063 equip these illegal border crossers with guns raises concerns about public safety. The LAPD has a duty\u200b to protect and serve American citizens, but how \u200bcan they do so effectively \u2063if they are allowing individuals with questionable legal status to\u2064 carry firearms? This decision puts the safety and well-being of Californians at risk.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, there are qualified \u2064U.S. citizens and lawful \u200cpermanent residents<\/a> who \u200dare eager to serve in law enforcement roles. By prioritizing the hiring of illegal \u2063border crossers<\/a> with DACA status, the LAPD is potentially\u200b denying these individuals the opportunity to contribute to their \u2062communities and pursue a career in law enforcement.<\/p>\n
The argument that these individuals are already living and working in the United States and therefore should be allowed to serve as\u2062 police\u2062 officers ignores the fact that they entered the country illegally in \u2062the first place. It sets a dangerous precedent and undermines the importance of \u2063following our immigration laws.<\/p>\n
While it is \u2062important \u2064to address the issue of illegal immigration with compassion \u2064and\u200d fairness, arming illegal border crossers \u2063with DACA status is \u200dnot the solution. It only serves to further\u200d erode the\u200c rule of law and compromise public safety.
