The latest estimates from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/publications\/immigration-statistics\/Pop_Estimate\/UnauthImmigrant\/unauthorized_immigrant_population_estimates_2015_-_2018.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">show<\/a> that only\u200b six states \u2062host more illegal aliens than Georgia.\u200c At about 400,000, we have more illegal aliens than \u201cgreen card\u201d holders.<\/p>\n<p>While illegal immigration \u2063is the No. 1 issue in the nation, until last week\u2019s news of the murder at \u200dUGA, \u200dthe same was not true in Georgia\u2019s politics. It \u2062is sadly \u2063accurate to say that much of \u200cGeorgia is a sanctuary state. Many local officials contribute to the state\u2019s illegal \u2064immigration by violating the\u2062 state law they have sworn to enforce and declaring an illegal sanctuary policy.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1985737804\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-812d54ae514bf74d15d042c73eb80466 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-812d54ae514bf74d15d042c73eb80466\"><\/div>\n<p>Shortly after taking office in 2021, Democrat Cobb County Sheriff Craig Owens invited a \u2064mariachi band to\u2064 celebrate\u200d his announcement to end the county jail\u2019s lifesaving <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ice.gov\/identify-and-arrest\/287g\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">287(g)<\/a> agreement (authorizing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to delegate to state and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/country-celebrates-natl-law-enforcement-appreciation-day\/\" title=\"Country celebrates Nat\u2019l Law Enforcement Appreciation Day\">local law enforcement officers<\/a> the authority to perform specified immigration officer functions) \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.northwestgeorgianews.com\/region\/bold-necessary-and-overdue-sheriff-owens-declares-end-to-287-g-immigration-enforcement\/article_c94f1424-1238-52ae-b5a3-877eb78e6496.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">and then he danced<\/a>. The invited crowd of newly\u200b empowered,\u200c anti-enforcement activists\u2064 funded by corporate Georgia went wild with gratitude.<\/p>\n<p>On the other side of metro-Atlanta, at his\u200d own swearing-in event in\u200c Gwinnett County, the newly elected Democrat sheriff, Keybo Taylor, stood before a large\u2064 audience, including media, and boasted that he too had ended the county jail\u2019s 287(g) agreement with ICE. He went further by announcing that \u201cwhat we will not be doing is notifying ICE of anybody\u2019s immigration status in the jail\u2063 or any of our facilities.\u201d\u200b To make his professional position on the inherent dangers of\u2063 \u201ccriminal illegals\u201d set free on our streets crystal \u2064clear, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.11alive.com\/article\/news\/politics\/elections\/new-gwinnett-county-sheriff-ends-jails-participation-in-287g-program-during-his-first-day-in-office\/85-db2e93b9-a8d6-4aff-b4d3-98c288bff8a2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Taylor added<\/a>, \u201cWe will not keep anyone in jail under an ICE\u2062 detainer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To\u200d address these defiant officials, Georgia Rep. Jesse Petrea has <a href=\"https:\/\/jamesmagazinega.com\/2024\/02\/06\/sanctuary-policies-put-georgians-safety-at-risk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">introduced<\/a> \u200d his pro-enforcement bill <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legis.ga.gov\/legislation\/66568\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HB 1105<\/a> (the Criminal Alien Track and Report Act), which would add penalties for noncompliance with existing laws against sanctuary. It defines \u201csanctuary\u201d as \u201cany regulation, rule, policy, or practice adopted by \u2064a local governing body which prohibits or restricts local officials or employees from communicating or cooperating with \u2062federal officials or law enforcement officers with regard to reporting immigration status information while such local official \u200bor employee is acting within the scope of his\u2063 or her official duties.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Lack of \u2063Media\u200d Coverage<\/h2>\n<p>My discussions with <a href=\"https:\/\/georgiasheriffs.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">law enforcement<\/a> officials and <a href=\"https:\/\/newdustininmansociety.org\/ocga-42-4-14-open-records-requests-round-up-incomplete\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">open records requests<\/a> show <a href=\"https:\/\/newdustininmansociety.org\/open-records-request-bulloch-county-sheriff-re-rumario-mazariegos-aka-rumario-vistrain-mazariegos\/\">many Georgia jailers do not obey the laws<\/a> against sanctuary, instead defying the law designed to protect us from the criminal illegals who are <a href=\"https:\/\/newdustininmansociety.org\/criminal-aliens-with-ice-detainers-in-the-georgia-prison-system-as-of-december-31-2023-via-ga-dept-of-corrections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">murdering, raping and, molesting<\/a> innocent\u200b Georgians \u2014 including our children. My complaints filed with various officials \u2063and agencies \u2062to force\u2063 compliance, or at least media coverage, went nowhere.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-b6fb4fe70d3a7345e4c5cd1e4e909558 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-b6fb4fe70d3a7345e4c5cd1e4e909558\"><\/div>\n<p>Taylor and the many other sheriffs in open and \u2062public defiance of state law against sanctuary have escaped the media attention that trusting voters would\u2063 expect. The reason for the news suppression is not a\u200d mystery. Most media are not on the \u2064side of immigration enforcement. But imagine the howling headlines if any state agency violated\u2063 any law that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gao.gov\/products\/t-hrd-93-33#:~:text=GAO%20noted%20that%3A%20(1),because%20illegal%20aliens%20are%20not\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">benefits illegal aliens<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gov. Kemp\u2019s \u2064Record<\/h2>\n<p>This\u2062 brings us to Republican Gov. Brian Kemp. As \u200cnoted by the\u200c left-wing Atlanta Journal-Constitution newspaper at the\u2064 time, Kemp\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ajc.com\/blog\/politics\/kemp-first-talks-tough-illegal-immigration\/0gqE1VqZLmqO3MzuMRHwAL\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">first TV ad<\/a> \u2062in \u200cthe 2018 Republican gubernatorial primary cited Americans who had been killed by illegal aliens and portrayed him as \u200b\u201ctough on \u200billegal immigration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The widespread belief then was that he meant tough on illegal immigration <em>in Georgia<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs governor,\u200b conservative businessman Brian Kemp will create a comprehensive database\u200d to track criminal aliens in Georgia. He will also update Georgia law to streamline deportations from our jails and prisons,\u201d went the detailed promises Kemp made on his 2018 campaign website.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-f5477265dbd5142837d9efc24f8b595b fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-f5477265dbd5142837d9efc24f8b595b\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cDonald Trump was right. We must secure the border \u2064and end sanctuary\u2062 cities,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/immigrationpoliticsga.com\/illegal-immigration-candidate-brian-kemp-2018-tv-campaign-ad\/\">said<\/a> candidate Kemp in 2018. But Kemp has ignored illegal immigration in Georgia.<\/p>\n<p>Sending Georgia\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/gov.georgia.gov\/press-releases\/2024-02-13\/gov-kemp-directs-georgia-guard-reinforcements-southern-border\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">National Guard \u200cto the border<\/a> has not resulted \u2064in Taylor et al. ending their illegal sanctuary policies. <a href=\"https:\/\/grabien.com\/story.php?id=458705\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cStanding with\u201d Texas Gov. Greg\u200d Abbott<\/a> in an on-the-border Fox News camera shot will not aid final passage of Rep. Petrea\u2019s enforcement\u2064 bill <em>in Georgia<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>If\u200b Kemp is ever going to finally speak up on enforcing Georgia\u2019s laws on illegal immigration \u2014 especially laws prohibiting sanctuary policies \u2014\u2064 Petrea\u2019s measure provides an obvious opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>Section 2, Paragraph 2, of \u200dthe Georgia Constitution says: \u201cThe Governor shall take care that the laws are faithfully executed and shall be the conservator \u200cof the peace throughout the \u200bstate.\u201d If Kemp continues\u200c to ignore illegal immigration and sanctuary jails\u2063 in Georgia, all concerned should ask exactly how he is better on the dangerous crisis in\u200d Georgia \u2064than President Joe Biden is nationally.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-bbea34c6ed5339152fc49bcfba22b4ff fdrlst__b89e9-after-post-content\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-bbea34c6ed5339152fc49bcfba22b4ff\"><\/div>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">\n<\/div>\n<p> <\/p>\n<h2> How has Gov. Kemp&#8217;s record on illegal immigration contradicted his campaign \u2063promises?<\/h2>\n<p><span>  Ensive database to track criminal aliens,\u200c streamline cooperation between local, state, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/evidence-mounts-that-capitol-breach-was-pre-planned-eroding-incitement-allegation-in-trump-impeachment-trial\/\" title=\"Evidence Mounts that Capitol Breach Was Pre-Planned, Eroding Incitement Allegation in Trump Impeachment Trial\">federal law enforcement agencies<\/a>, and \u2064stand\u2062 with President Trump to build a wall \u200dand \u200bend illegal immigration,\u201d\u200d the ad stated. \u200bAnd voters\u200c believed\u2063 him.<\/p>\n<p>However, since taking office, Gov. Kemp&#8217;s \u2064record on illegal\u2064 immigration has\u2063 been disappointing\u2062 at best. Despite campaigning on a\u200d promise to crack down on illegal immigration, his actions have\u200b not matched his rhetoric.<\/p>\n<p>For example, in 2019, Gov. Kemp signed into law a bill\u200b that allows illegal immigrants to obtain driver&#8217;s licenses in \u2063Georgia. This move not \u200bonly undermines our \u2064immigration\u2062 laws but also poses a threat\u200c to public\u200b safety.\u2064 \u200dDriver&#8217;s licenses provide a form of identification that can be used for\u200d various purposes, including opening bank accounts \u200band boarding flights. \u2062By \u2062granting driver&#8217;s licenses \u200bto illegal immigrants, Gov. Kemp is essentially providing them with\u2062 a \u200blegitimate identity, making it easier for\u2062 them to engage in \u2063illegal\u200d activities and \u200cpotentially evade law\u200b enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, Gov. Kemp has failed to \u2063take\u200d decisive action against local officials who \u2062refuse to cooperate with federal\u200c immigration authorities. Despite the existence of\u200c state laws that prohibit sanctuary policies, \u2063many Georgia\u200c sheriffs openly \u2063defy these laws without facing \u2063any consequences. \u200bThis\u2064 lack of enforcement not only puts\u2064 the safety \u2063of Georgians at\u2062 risk but also undermines the\u200c rule of \u2062law.<\/p>\n<p>It is \u200cclear \u200bthat\u200b Gov. Kemp has prioritized political expedience \u200dover the safety and well-being of Georgia residents. By failing to take meaningful action against illegal immigration and\u2064 sanctuary policies, he has\u2062 not only \u200cbetrayed the trust of the voters\u200d but also contributed to the heart-wrenching stories of \u200d<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-york-republicans-want-cuomo-impeachment-findings-made-public\/\" title=\"New York Republicans Want Cuomo Impeachment Findings Made Public\">innocent lives lost<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Call\u200c for \u200cAction<\/h2>\n<p>Georgia citizens\u2064 must hold their\u2062 elected officials accountable and\u200c demand \u2062stronger measures against illegal immigration. We cannot afford to turn a blind eye to this pressing issue any longer. Our communities and\u2063 our families are at risk, and it \u2063is up to \u200dus\u2062 to ensure\u200d their safety.<\/p>\n<p>Contact your state\u2062 representatives and senators and urge them to \u2063support bills like HB 1105, which seek to enforce existing \u200blaws against sanctuary policies.\u200d Attend town hall meetings and engage\u2064 in grassroots advocacy to raise awareness\u2063 and pressure local officials\u200d to comply \u200cwith the law.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, as\u200c the next election approaches, carefully consider the candidates&#8217; positions on\u2063 illegal immigration and hold \u2062them accountable for their \u200cpromises. We cannot \u200callow politicians to pay lip service to this issue \u2063while failing to take meaningful action.<\/p>\n<p>Together, we can create a\u2064 Georgia that\u200b is safe and secure for all of\u200d its residents. It is time to put an \u2064end to the\u200c heart-wrenching stories of innocent \u2062lives lost due to illegal immigration.
