The attempt by former intelligence officials to discredit reporting\u200c about Hunter \u2063Biden\u2019s \u200claptop ahead \u200bof the 2020 \u200belection has sparked a lawsuit alleging that it violated federal law \u200cand served as an \u200dundisclosed contribution to Joe\u2062 Biden\u2019s presidential campaign. <\/p>\n

America First Legal (AFL) has filed \u2064a \u200blawsuit against the Federal\u2062 Election\u200b Commission (FEC), claiming \u200dthat the letter signed by 51 former intelligence officials\u2064 was\u2064 designed \u2064to help Joe Biden win the election and therefore \u2064should have been reported as\u200b a campaign contribution. AFL had \u2062previously filed a complaint with the FEC\u200b in October, accusing the\u200b Biden campaign\u200c of failing to disclose these alleged contributions. The \u2062FEC has yet to respond \u200cto the complaint, according to the lawsuit. <\/p>\n

In April \u200d2023, House Republicans released<\/a> testimony\u200d from Michael\u200b Morell, a\u200d former deputy director of the CIA who signed the letter, revealing that then-Biden campaign official and now-Secretary of State Antony Blinken had reached out to him to discuss \u2064the Hunter Biden laptop story. Morell confirmed that Blinken’s call influenced \u200dthe issuance of a public statement claiming the laptop was part of a Russian disinformation campaign.<\/p>\n

During the investigation, Morell \u200balso revealed that Biden campaign chair Steve Ricchetti \u2063personally thanked\u2062 him for putting out the statement. Biden \u2064himself used the \u200d”Letter of 51″ to\u2064 discredit the reporting during a debate with Trump. <\/p>\n

\u201cThere are \u206350 former\u200d national \u200cintelligence folks\u2062 who \u200dsaid\u2062 that what \u2026 he\u2019s accusing me of is \u2063a Russian plant,\u201d Biden said\u200b at\u2063 the time. <\/p>\n
