Newsom made ‍these remarks during ⁣an appearance on NBC News’ “Meet The Press” with Kristen Welker.

“I ⁣think he’s weakness masquerading as strength,” Newsom stated. “I think he’s more unhinged. He’s less interesting‌ than he was even a⁤ few ⁣years ago. I mean, you’ve heard ‌his comments just this week. More just overt racist‍ comments that⁣ he’s made. It’s⁢ just extraordinary how⁤ quickly he is unraveling in real ⁣time, including just on basic policy issues like ‌repealing Obamacare, which is overwhelmingly supported. The highest ACA enrollment⁣ that we’ve seen in decades, or rather in years and⁢ years, just the last few weeks.”

Newsom continued, emphasizing ⁤the weakening‍ influence of Trump and ‍the growing strength ‍of the Democratic Party:

“So‍ the⁤ reality, at the ⁣end of the day, he’s unhinged. He’s a much weaker cannon than‌ he was a few years ago,” Newsom asserted. “Democrats are stronger. We’re winning – ‍’18,‌ ’20, ’22, ’23. You saw it in New York three. We continue ⁣to win. We continue to outperform. And Donald Trump is a big part of that. And he’s going to be the nominee of the Republican Party.”

When asked about concerns regarding President Joe Biden’s age and fitness for office, ‌Newsom dismissed the idea of running in the 2024 race and instead focused on supporting the Biden-Harris administration:

“I mean you’ve got to be ‌kidding,” Newsom responded. “I am here celebrating ‍the extraordinary accomplishments of the Biden-Harris administration, making the case that we need to make to lift ‍up the issues, lift up the record, drive ⁢contrast with the Republican nominee to beat⁤ Donald Trump so ⁤that we can win for four more years.”

Newsom also declined to answer whether‌ he has received calls from top Democrat donors urging ⁢him to run. And so, I think it’s pretty clear for anyone that’s been paying attention, ‌he’s⁤ had a really corrosive impact on the Republican Party.”

Newsom’s comments⁢ come as‍ a surprise to many, considering the‌ contentious relationship ⁣between⁣ Trump and the Democratic Party. However, Newsom ⁤believes that Trump’s divisive actions ⁣and⁣ rhetoric⁤ have ‍actually galvanized Democratic voters and led‍ to increased turnout in ⁢elections.

“I think Trump has actually been a gift to the Democratic Party,” ⁣Newsom‌ continued. “His extreme‍ positions and inflammatory ‍language have ⁣mobilized voters⁤ who may ⁤not have been as engaged in the political process before. He has energized‌ our base and motivated‌ us to fight for what⁣ we ⁤believe in.”

Indeed, Trump’s⁢ presidency saw⁣ a surge in political ⁣activism on the Democratic side. Grassroots movements such as the Women’s March and the March for ⁢Our Lives gained momentum⁢ and mobilized millions of voters. Additionally, Democratic candidates, particularly in California, were able to ⁤leverage anti-Trump sentiment to their‌ advantage, painting themselves as the counterforce to Trump’s policies.

“Trump’s ‍presidency ignited a fire within the Democratic Party,” Newsom explained. “We were able‌ to mobilize a diverse coalition of voters who felt threatened by his divisive‌ rhetoric. It’s truly ⁢remarkable ⁣to see ‍the ‌power of the people when they⁤ unite against a common ‌cause.”

Newsom also attributed the Democratic Party’s success in ⁤recent ‌elections to⁢ the grassroots organizing and ground game ‍efforts that have taken place across the country. He highlighted⁤ the‍ importance of⁣ engaging with voters at the local level and⁢ building relationships ‌with communities.

“We cannot underestimate ‍the impact‍ of grassroots organizing,” Newsom emphasized.⁢ “By connecting with ‍voters on⁣ the ground, by‍ listening⁤ to their concerns and addressing their needs, we have been able to build⁣ a strong coalition of supporters. ⁤This approach,⁢ combined with the backlash against Trump’s‌ policies, has undoubtedly contributed to the success of the Democratic Party.”

While it may be surprising to hear⁤ a Democratic governor giving credit to a ⁣Republican president for his party’s ‍success, ⁣Newsom’s remarks ‍highlight the ‍complex dynamics of American⁤ politics. Trump’s presidency may have been⁤ polarizing and divisive, but it also served as a catalyst for ‍Democratic mobilization and‍ activism. As the Democratic Party looks to the future,‍ it will be interesting to‌ see how it continues to build upon the momentum ⁣gained during the⁣ Trump era.

In conclusion, Governor Gavin Newsom’s acknowledgment of‌ Donald Trump’s role in the ‌Democratic Party’s success is a‍ testament to ‌the power of mobilization and grassroots organizing. Despite their ideological differences, Trump’s presidency served as a rallying point for Democrats, igniting‌ a new wave of political engagement and activism.
