The\u200c Adams\u200b administration then brought the case to the appeals \u200dcourt.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Murad Awawdeh,\u200c executive \u2064director of the \u200dNew York Immigration Coalition, strongly criticized the\u200d lawsuit, stating, \u2062&#8221;This is another shameful \u200battempt \u2064by xenophobic Republicans who would disenfranchise residents rather than promote a more inclusive and participatory democracy. \u2064Immigrant \u2064New Yorkers\u200d deserve a say\u200c in how their local government functions \u200cand spends their tax\u200b money.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>On the other hand, many Republicans celebrated the\u2063 ruling.\u2062 Assemblyman \u200dMichael\u200d Tannousis, \u2063one of the plaintiffs, expressed his satisfaction, saying, &#8220;Democracy always wins and\u2064 I \u200bam proud\u200c to say it was delivered \u200dyet again today.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>New York congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (R.) emphasized that the right\u200d to vote in the United States is \u2062a &#8220;sacred right given only to United States citizens&#8221; and urged left-wing lawmakers to\u200d refrain from\u200d pushing unconstitutional\u2062 measures\u2064 that dilute the voices of American citizens.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>New York City is not\u200c alone in its attempt to implement non-citizen voting. Other cities such as Washington, D.C., and San\u2062 Francisco have also pursued similar \u200bmeasures.\u2062 In fact, in October, \u2064the D.C. city \u200bcouncil passed\u200d a \u2063law allowing non-citizens, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/washington-dc-city-council-gives-initial-approval-to-bill-that-would-allow-non-citizens-to-vote\/\" title=\"Washington, DC City Council Gives Initial Approval to Bill That Would Allow Non-Citizens to Vote\">including illegal immigrants<\/a> and foreign diplomats, to cast votes\u2063 in local elections.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p> <\/p>\n<h2> What \u2062were the \u200c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/despite-growing-opposition-and-serious-problems-at-home-democrats-make-ukraine-funding-their-top-priority\/\" title=\"Democrats prioritize Ukraine funding despite growing opposition and domestic issues.\">main arguments made<\/a> by proponents of the New York City law \u2062that aimed to grant non-citizen residents \u200bthe right to vote in municipal elections?<\/h2>\n<p><span>  K State Constitution and \u2062is therefore\u2063 invalid.&#8221; The court&#8217;s decision came after\u2063 several legal challenges were brought against the law, known as Intro 1867, which was passed by the New York City Council in 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The law aimed \u2062to give non-citizen residents \u2063of New York City the right\u200b to vote in municipal elections, including \u2063races \u2064for\u2063 mayor, City Council, and other \u2063local offices.
