On Wednesday, the paper reported the administration is\u2062 \u201cconsidering a\u2064 string\u2064 of new executive\u2064 actions and \u200dfederal regulations in an effort to curb\u200d migration \u200cat the U.S. southern border.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmong\u2063 the ideas under \u2063discussion\u200c include using a section of the \u200dImmigration and Nationality Act to bar \u200dmigrants from seeking asylum in between U.S. ports of entry,\u201d the \u2063report \u2062read.\u200d \u201cThe administration is also discussing tying \u200dthat directive to a\u200d trigger \u200b\u2014 meaning that it would only come into effect after \u2062a certain number\u2063 of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/white-house-releases-list-of-president-trumps-accomplishments-and-it-is-historic\/\" title=\"White House Releases List of President Trump\u2019s Accomplishments \u2013  And It Is Historic!\">illegal crossings<\/a> took\u2064 place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The president, however, continued to deny blame for the crisis with calls \u2063on lawmakers to send legislation. Biden made last month\u2019s plea\u200b to Capitol \u2064Hill \u200bas lawmakers negotiated a \u200dbipartisan \u200bspending bill that ultimately included \u200cjust\u200c $20 \u2063billion for the\u2064 U.S. \u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heritage.org\/homeland-security\/report\/the-senate-border-bill-disaster-border-security\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">border<\/a> and another $60 billion for war with Russia in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>The colossal\u2062 spending package was swiftly defeated days after its release revealed provisions to <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/02\/05\/under-the-senates-atrocious-border-bill-everybody-gets-asylum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">codify<\/a> the border crisis. It showed Biden\u2019s maneuvering for \u201cborder security\u201d was really just a failed extortion effort\u200b to send more \u200dto Ukraine. The upper\u2062 chamber went on to pass a $95\u2063 billion bill with\u200b U.S. taxpayer funds for Israel, Kyiv, and\u2062 Gaza.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans dispute Biden\u2019s\u200d claims that the commander-in-chief is\u2062 powerless to fulfill his oath of \u2064office to faithfully\u200d execute the nation\u2019s border laws.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGive me \u2062the Border Patrol,\u2062 give me \u2063the people, the\u200b judges \u2014 give me the people who can stop this and make it work right,\u201d Biden said in January.<\/p>\n<p>Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson \u200cresponded \u200don X with a series of\u200c steps Biden could take immediately to combat the\u200d crisis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s either lying or misinformed.\u201d \u2064Johnson\u200d wrote. \u201cHere \u2063are just a \u200bfew authorities at his\u2063 disposal \u2014\u200b if only he would use\u200c them.\u201d<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>For\u200c one \u2062thing,\u200d Johnson suggested, \u200bBiden could use presidential\u2063 authority to restrict\u2062 entry and mandate detention of foreign lawbreakers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure>\n<blockquote data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<div lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>President Biden \u2062said \u201cI\u2019ve done all I can do\u201d with executive authority to secure \u200dthe border. That is simply untrue.\u200d He\u2019s either lying or misinformed.<\/p>\n<p>Here are just a few of the authorities at \u2064his \u200cdisposal \u2013 if only he would use them:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Presidential Authority to Restrict\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/DMFCh4ZElq\">pic.twitter.com\/DMFCh4ZElq<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Lies about presidential powerlessness, however, have\u200d become the standard response from Democrats on the border. The number of illegal crossings has approximately <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/opinion\/4423296-matthews-illegal-immigrants-double-under-biden-and-thats-just-the-start\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">doubled<\/a> \u2064under President Biden, with 1.7 million \u201cgotaways\u201d evading \u200dcapture over the three\u2063 years he\u2019s been in office. Last week, House Republicans formally <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/02\/14\/house-republicans-impeach-homeland-security-secretary-alejandro-mayorkas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">impeached<\/a> \u2064Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for failing\u2062 to keep U.S. borders secure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt certainly is a crisis,\u201d Mayorkas\u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/02\/11\/news\/mayorkas-we-dont-bear-responsibility-for-a-broken-system-rejects-impeachment-push\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> on NBC\u2019s \u201cMeet the Press\u201d earlier this month,\u200b \u201cBut\u2062 fundamentally, Congress is the only one \u200cwho can fix \u2063it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s allies on\u2064 Capitol Hill have made\u200d the same arguments. \u200cNew York Rep. \u200bDan Goldman\u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RNCResearch\/status\/1757558457215877380?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">called<\/a> the House impeachment of Secretary Mayorkas an \u200dexample of\u200c \u201ctaking the scalp\u201d for \u201cthe MAGA \u2063base\u201d to scapegoat blame for a crisis which can \u201conly be addressed by legislation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While \u2063Democrats continue to say this on TV, Politico reports more\u200c executive orders for\u200d border \u2063action are in the pipeline, indicating the White House believes it \u2064can indeed address the \u200dborder without \u2064the need for action from\u200b Congress.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>Tristan Justice is\u200b the western correspondent\u2064 for The Federalist and the\u200c author of Social Justice Redux, a conservative newsletter on culture, health, and wellness. Instead, \u200cthey have shifted blame to Congress and \u200cinsisted that executive action is not a feasible solution.<\/p>\n<p>However,\u2062 the recent report from \u2062Politico \u2062contradicts this narrative. \u200dIt \u200creveals\u2064 that the administration is indeed considering a series of new executive actions and federal regulations\u2062 to curb migration\u200c at\u200c the U.S. southern\u200b border. These proposed actions\u2062 include using the Immigration and \u200bNationality Act to\u200d bar migrants from seeking \u2064asylum between ports of entry, as \u2063well as implementing\u200b triggers that would activate these directives after a certain number of \u200billegal \u200dcrossings.<\/p>\n<p>This shift\u200c in stance by the administration is significant and raises questions about their previous denials \u2064of \u2064executive power \u2063in addressing the crisis. President\u2062 Biden\u200c has consistently called on\u2064 lawmakers to pass legislation to address\u2064 the issue, but his pleas have largely gone unanswered.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans, on the other hand, argue that the president does have the \u2064authority to take action and fulfill his duty to enforce the nation&#8217;s border laws. They point out that there are\u2062 several authorities at his disposal, including the power to restrict entry\u200d and mandate\u200d detention of foreign lawbreakers.
