One report by the American College of Pediatricians detailed the results of a review of more than 60 studies on mental health in adolescents with gender \u2063dysphoria \u2063and \u200dconcluded \u200cthat wrongly termed\u200c \u201cgender-affirming\u201d care had \u201cno demonstrable, long-term benefit\u201d on patients\u2019 psychosocial well-being.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, the U.S. Trans Survey reported the results of an open-access internet survey administered by a coalition of several trans-activist\u200c groups to tens of thousands of men, women, and adolescents who identify as \u201ctrans,\u201d which reported sky-high\u2064 satisfaction rates \u200cin those who had \u201ctransitioned.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>You can probably guess which report the media have touted as proof that the science is settled. They say \u200ctransitioning is an\u2063 overwhelmingly good idea! \u2064And bias, if not hate, likely motivates anyone who counsels\u2063 caution\u200b and patience,\u200d even for\u200c children.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Note that the U.S. Trans Survey is being promoted and amplified\u2062 at a time when many states, following the example of many European countries, have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/shares-rally-u-s-treasury-yields-fall-as-u-s-economy-shrinks\/\" title=\"Shares rally, U.S. Treasury yields fall as U.S. economy shrinks\">pulled back sharply<\/a> from\u200c what \u200chad become\u200c a \u201ctrans pipeline\u201d for the ever-growing population\u2062 of children and adolescents, especially teen girls, who question their \u200csex. It\u2019s also \u2062a \u200btime when detransitioners have become more vocal and visible. They\u2019re even suing doctors and clinics who \u200bcaused their infertility \u2064or removed their breasts \u2064or genitals\u200d as children when they were\u200d too young\u2064 to understand or consent.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Which of these reports should be believed? The pediatricians\u2019 study \u200cis\u200b a thoughtful review \u2064of a large body of\u200b medical research. The other is an anonymous internet poll\u200d designed by activists to reach people who believe they have been discriminated against and\u2062 who have a\u200b vested interest in the \u200boutcome of the survey. The latter is the definition of bias \u2014 in statistics class, this kind of product is described by the pithy phrase:\u2063 \u201cGarbage in, garbage out.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Elliot Page, formerly known as the actress Ellen\u200c Page,\u200c helped to recruit participants for the survey, along with other well-known media figures. When a celebrity\u2064 recruits participants, those who share the celebrity\u2019s stance are more likely to answer the call. Page has\u200b called transition\u200c nothing but \u201cjoy\u201d\u2064 and \u200bhas said it caused a \u201cmassive explosion of creativity.\u201d Page \u200dhas also been very vocal in decrying \u200cstate \u200dlegislation that protects\u2063 children from\u2063 being hurried into puberty-blocking hormones and surgeries.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The respondents \u2014 who, like Page, are \u200dliving as if they are individuals of the opposite sex \u2014 likewise report an\u2064 almost perfect satisfaction rate (94-98 percent). These kinds of satisfaction rates are very hard to square with the sad fact that 82 percent of individuals identifying as transgender \u2063have considered killing themselves and 40 percent have attempted suicide. These\u200c abysmal statistics hold even in\u200d countries where there \u200cis wide social acceptance \u2063of almost all sexual lifestyles.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The survey is not a scholarly study. Its purpose is to be weaponized\u200d against critics of the trans narrative or anyone\u2063 who fails to believe that the only response to gender dysphoria is immediate\u200b blanket \u201caffirmation,\u201d\u200c even when it comes to\u2064 children. Recall that activist\u2062 organizations have succeeded in \u200boutlawing therapeutic and wait-and-see approaches for children in at least 22 states, with partial bans in other states.
