The cost of additional amenities provided was not mentioned in the documents. <\/p>\n<p>Social media users\u2062 chimed in and \u200bexpressed outrage, given the fact that America\u2019s\u200b growing number of homeless veterans is seemingly not a concern of the state, as opposed to illegal immigrants and their families. <\/p>\n<p>Massachusetts\u200c Governor Maura T. Healey issued a state of emergency proclamation in August of last year,\u2064 citing the state\u2019s over 20,000 migrant shelter population.<\/p>\n<p>Due to capacity overruns, local hotels have had to provide \u2063spaces to be utilized as emergency shelters. \u2062The state recently constructed a new temporary facility with 400 beds earlier this month in Boston\u2019s Melnea Cass Recreational Center.<\/p>\n<p>Like New York,\u2062 Massachusetts has a long-standing \u200cright to refuge provision that requires the state to give families in dire need \u200dimmediate refuge. Both New\u200b York and Massachusetts \u200dare referred\u2064 to as\u2063 \u201csanctuary states.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>According\u2063 to\u200d the legislation, emergency shelters must include basic cooking capabilities, \u200dand \u200cif they do not, the state is required to\u2064 step in \u2064and arrange for food delivery.<\/p>\n<p>The East \u2063Boston-based Spinelli Ravioli Manufacturing Company, a \u200ccaterer, was recently given a $10 million, six-month, no-bid\u200c contract by <em>CBS<\/em> affiliate <em>WBZ<\/em> to prepare and transport meals.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cAs an approved state vendor, Spinelli\u2019s was contacted at the onset of the \u200ccrisis,\u201d the company told <em>WBZ<\/em>. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are not the exclusive meal vendor and do not have a guaranteed contract, or financial agreement beyond this initial emergency period,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are currently in the bid process for an enduring contract and are looking forward to continue\u2064 to aid the State and the Executive Office \u2062of \u200bHousing and Livable Communities \u200dto reach their\u2064 goals.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The influx of illegal migrants into Massachusetts has become so dire that some families are even\u200b taking it upon themselves to welcome and house them.<\/p>\n<p>According to a recent report, a migrant family of four showed up at couple Jessica and Colin Stokes\u2019 home less than \u2062an hour after they had\u200c called the \u200cstate to volunteer\u200b to host migrants, according\u2063 to <em>CBS News<\/em> Boston.<\/p>\n<p>Before\u200b the offer came through, the family that the Stokes hosted had been spending the night at Logan Airport.<\/p>\n<p>The Stokes\u2019 story is being told as the Cass Recreational Center\u2064 in Roxbury, Massachusetts, \u200dwhich opened as the\u200b state\u2019s newest emergency shelter, filled up \u200cto 400\u200b individuals \u2063in just one week.<\/p>\n<p>A number of organizations were displaced by\u200c the shelter\u2019s opening, including the Boston\u200c United Track and Cross Country Club, which typically serves minors from some\u200c of the city\u2019s \u2062poorest communities.<\/p>\n<p>The city authorities are continuing to scan the\u200d area in search of the next structure or building that they can take over and convert into a refuge for \u200bdisplaced \u2063individuals without documentation. <\/p>\n<p>Stay informed! These documents, obtained by CBS News Boston, reveal that the state has entered into 17 contracts amounting to $116\u200c million to lodge migrant families \u200buntil June, including a no-bid deal worth $10 million for a food provider.<\/p>\n<p>Under these contracts, \u200bhotels receive at least $64 per \u2064person\u200d from the state for meals daily, which include $16 breakfasts, $17 lunches, and $31 dinners for each migrant being housed.
