He died in the prison establishment above the Arctic Circle on the Yamal Peninsula.<\/p>\n<p>As a result of Navalny\u2019s death, several demonstrations internationally and in Russia took place, where people\u2064 gathered\u2063 who wished that he could take on Russian\u2064 President Vladimir Putin in the future \u200delection.<\/p>\n<p>Many Russians who had placed their future hopes in the hands \u200dof President\u2062 Vladimir Putin\u2019s \u200bmost critical \u200bopponent were\u200d devastated by the \u200cunexpected death of Navalny, 47. Even\u200c after surviving a nerve agent poisoning and serving several \u2063prison terms, Navalny persisted in his outspoken criticism of \u2064Putin.<\/p>\n<p>After the news spread\u200b around the world, hundreds of people showed up in \u200bdozens of Russian cities on Friday\u200c and Saturday\u200b to pay\u200d their respects to Navalny\u2064 at makeshift monuments \u200band memorials, honoring those who have\u2063 suffered from political repression and censorship.  <\/p>\n<p>Supporters of Navalny \u2063brought\u200d flowers and\u2063 candles\u2062 to the \u200cmemorials. By Saturday night, police had arrested 401 people in more than a dozen cities, according to the rights\u2062 organization <em>OVD-Info<\/em>, which tracks political\u200b arrests and offers legal\u2062 assistance. <\/p>\n<p>The\u2062 group reported\u2064 this data \u200cto a tracker <a href=\"https:\/\/en.ovdinfo.org\/navalny-vigil-counter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">on \u2062its website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The second-largest \u200dcity in Russia, St.\u2064 Petersburg, saw more than 200 arrests, according to <em>OVD-Info<\/em>. <\/p>\n<p>One of the individuals\u2062 detained was Grigory Mikhnov-Voitenko, a \u200cpriest of the \u200cApostolic Orthodox Church, which is\u2063 independent of the Russian Orthodox Church. He was taken into custody on Saturday \u2064morning after announcing on\u200b social\u200b media that he would\u200d be holding a memorial service\u200c for Navalny. He was\u200b arrested on \u2064charges of rally\u2062 planning and he was \u200cput in a holding cell in a\u200c police precinct.<\/p>\n<p>However, <em>OVD-Info<\/em> revealed that he later\u2064 suffered a stroke and had to\u2063 be \u2064hospitalized.<\/p>\n<p>According to a \u2063statement from court officials on Saturday, in St. Petersburg, courts have demanded\u200d 42 of those detained on Friday to \u2063serve from one to six days in jail, and nine other individuals were charged.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, <em>OVD-Info<\/em> \u200c reported that\u2062 at\u200c least six individuals in Moscow received orders to spend 15 days in jail. According to the group, two more people\u200b were imprisoned in the city of Bryansk and one more in the southern city \u2062of Krasnodar.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement of Navalny\u2019s death was made one month before Russia\u2019s presidential\u2063 election, which is most likely going to extend President Vladimir\u200c Putin\u2019s term in\u2063 office by another six years. On Sunday, there were still unanswered \u200cquestions regarding the cause of death and the timing of the body\u2019s release to the family\u200d by the authorities.<\/p>\n<p>The politician was \u2062\u201cmurdered,\u201d according to Navalny\u2019s team, which also claimed that\u200c the government was purposely delaying the\u2064 body\u2019s release.\u2062 Navalny\u2019s mother and attorneys reportedly received conflicting \u200binformation from different facilities that they \u2062had visited in their \u2063search for the body. <\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, \u200cNavalny\u2019s \u2064spokesperson, Kira Yarmysh, claimed that\u200c \u201cthey\u2019re driving us around in circles and \u200ccovering \u2063their tracks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Yarmysh, a note given to \u2064Navalny\u2019s mother said that he passed \u200caway on Friday at 2:17 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>When his mother arrived at the prison colony on Saturday, officials informed her that her son had\u200d allegedly\u200d died from \u201csudden death syndrome.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cEverything there is covered with\u200b cameras in the \u2063colony. Every step he took was filmed from all angles\u2063 all these years. Each employee has a video recorder. In two days, \u2062there has not\u200d been a single video leaked or published. There is no room\u2064 for uncertainty here,\u201d Navalny\u2019s \u200dclosest supporter and \u2063strategist Leonid Volkov stated on \u2063Sunday.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to Russia\u2019s \u2063Federal Penitentiary Service, Navalny \u201cfelt \u200dsick\u201d after a walk on Friday and later became unconscious at the penal\u2064 colony.
