The sources stated that the president had initially announced Beau\u2019s passing rather\u200d than Hur \u200dor his affiliates. <\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, the \u200ctwo sources cited in the <em>NBC News <\/em>article on Wednesday claimed Biden, not Hur, brought up Beau\u2019s passing during the interview when discussing the classified documents \u2062discovered at\u2062 a Virginia \u2063rental house. \u200b <\/p>\n<p>A ghostwriter had\u200c been assisting Biden in writing a memoir about \u2064losing Beau to brain cancer in 2015, the\u2063 sources said. \u2062Biden brought up \u2063the death \u2062of his son in response to questions\u200d regarding his workflow \u2064at a rental home from \u200c2016 to 2018. <\/p>\n<p>According to the report, investigators obtained a 2017 recording in \u200bwhich Biden informed the ghostwriter that he had discovered \u201cclassified stuff\u201d in\u2063 the residence.<\/p>\n<p>The sources went on\u2062 to say that Biden seemed \u2064\u201cunsure\u201d of Beau\u2019s \u2064date of death at that point in the interview as \u2062he began discussing other aspects of his life in an attempt to recollect that particular time. <\/p>\n<p>Biden was reportedly accurate about the date, \u200bMay 30<sup>th<\/sup>, but not the year, which was 2015.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cBut Hur \u2062never \u200dasked that question, according to two people familiar with Hur\u2019s five-hour interview with the \u2064president over two days last October. It was the president, not Hur\u200d or \u200bhis team, who\u200d first introduced Beau Biden\u2019s death, they said,\u201d the <em>NBC<\/em> report stated. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cThe line\u200c of questioning\u2063 about the memoir was directly relevant to the central issue of\u2062 the investigation. Hur\u2019s team had learned that \u200dBiden was recorded\u200d in \u20642017 telling the ghost writer that he \u2018found all the \u2064classified stuff downstairs,\u2019 at the Virginia rental\u200c home where the two were working on the book,\u201d the report continued.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Hur\u2019s 345-page \u2062report, which cited evidence that \u2064Biden brought home and retained highly \u200cclassified \u200dmaterial, had cleared \u200dhim of any criminal \u200cwrongdoing due to his age and poor memory. Prosecutors came\u2062 to \u2063the\u200d conclusion\u200d that they\u200c could not demonstrate that the president \u2062knew the material was classified \u2064at the\u2063 time, despite the fact that he was found to \u200dhave given the ghostwriter access to classified material at \u200bleast\u200c three \u2062times.<\/p>\n<p>Hur\u2019s descriptions of the president\u2019s memory has drawn harsh criticism of the report from Biden supporters and the administration. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cWhy \u200cin the\u200c hell are you asking that question?\u201d\u200c former Attorney General Eric Holder, a Democrat, stated on Monday on <em>MSNBC<\/em>, prompting that Hur was \u201ca rube, perhaps,\u201d who had \u201cshaded\u201d what he wrote in the report.\u2063 \u201cWhat does\u200b that have to do with the retention of classified \u200cdocuments?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Additionally, First Lady Jill Biden asked if Hur was using \u2062\u201cour son\u2019s death \u200bto score political points\u201d in a letter for fundraising.<\/p>\n<p>According to people who are aware of Biden\u2019s interpretation of\u2063 the \u2062interview, Hur prompted\u2064 the president\u2062 to mention his son \u2063by posing \u2064a number \u200bof intimate\u200b questions about Beau. Inquiries concerning \u2062Biden\u2019s memoir, \u201cPromise Me, Dad,\u201d which details his son\u2019s \u200cfight with cancer and eventual passing \u2062in 2015, were \u2063among them.
