On Wednesday, House Intelligence\u2063 Committee Chairman\u2063 Mike Turner issued a cryptic warning about a \u200b\u201cnational security threat\u201d related to a \u201cdestabilizing foreign military capability\u201d \u2064so grave that President Biden should declassify all information about it immediately.\u2062 Soon thereafter, anonymous sources \u200dleaked\u2062 to the \u2062press that the \u200cthreat was about Russia wanting to \u200dput nuclear weapons in space.<\/p>\n<p>This prompted a\u2063 flood of statements from Republicans\u2064 and Democrats\u2062 that the threat was very serious \u2014 but\u200d not to worry, they have the situation under control. White\u200c House National\u200d Security \u2064Adviser Jake Sullivan told reporters he had already scheduled \u200ba briefing with congressional leaders on the matter before Turner made his statement, and don\u2019t worry, President Biden \u2062\u201cis\u2062 going to ensure the security of \u200dthe\u200b American people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Democrat House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries\u2063 issued a helpful statement clarifying what\u200d all this was really about: \u201cThe most \u2062urgent national security threat facing the\u2064 American people right now is the possibility that Congress \u2062abandons Ukraine and allows Vladimir Putin\u2019s Russia to win.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>Intelligence Agencies vs.\u200c FISA Reforms<\/h3>\n<p>Meanwhile, Congress was set to take up proposed reforms\u200d to\u2063 Section 702\u2064 of FISA that would put an end \u200dto warrantless spying on Americans. The \u2064intelligence agencies and \u2064the White House have\u200d been very \u2063clear about their opposition\u200b to those reforms and that they would very much like \u2064to keep\u200d spying on Americans without having\u2063 to obtain a warrant. They\u2019ve been using the press to pressure Congress to \u200cscrap the reforms. On\u2063 Tuesday, the FBI shared \u200cnewly declassified information with\u200b Politico revealing\u2063 it used \u200cSection 702 to foil a\u200b terrorist plot on U.S. soil \u200clast \u2062year \u2064\u2014 a none-too-subtle \u2062suggestion that if they had to bother with getting a warrant, \u200bthey wouldn\u2019t be able to stop these kind of\u2062 terrorist plots.<\/p>\n<p>What happened next is telling. Even though the House Republicans \u200dwho were \u2062pushing for \u2063the FISA reforms appeared to be winning \u2062the \u2063debate, in the \u2062aftermath of\u200c the\u2064 hysteria over Russia\u2063 nukes \u2063in space, Speaker Johnson pulled the bill and canceled Congress for the rest of \u2064the week.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>It \u200ddoesn\u2019t take a conspiracy \u200dtheorist to figure out what happened here. Our intelligence agencies don\u2019t want lawmakers getting in the way of their plans. \u200dThey don\u2019t want any interruption in the flow of U.S. tax \u200ddollars to Ukraine, and \u200dthey don\u2019t want any curbs on their ability to spy \u2062on Americans.<\/p>\n<p>The irony here is that the U.S. intelligence community itself has become a far greater threat \u2063to our republic than Russia or any other\u2063 country.\u200c As journalists\u2064 Michael Shellenberger, Matt Taibbi, and Alex Gutentag reported Tuesday, the CIA \u200casked foreign intelligence\u2063 agencies \u2064to spy on more than \u2064two dozen \u200dTrump associates as early as 2015 and share the intelligence they acquired. This\u2064 surveillance operation\u2062 would later be used to launch\u200b the Crossfire Hurricane investigation\u200c and craft the\u2063 Russia-collusion hoax.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>The Real Threat \u200cRevealed<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cUntil now, the official story has been that the FBI\u2019s investigation began after \u200cAustralian intelligence \u2062officials told\u2064 US officials that a Trump \u2063aide had boasted to an Australian diplomat that Russia\u200c had damning material about Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton,\u201d the report\u200c says.<\/p>\n<p>But in fact, the reports\u200d alleges, U.S. intelligence agencies\u2063 tasked\u2064 the United Kingdom, \u2063Canada, New \u2062Zealand, and Australia \u2014 \u200dthe other members of the\u200d so-called \u201cFive Eyes\u201d intelligence alliance \u2014 to surveil 26 Trump associates identified by President \u200cBarack Obama\u2019s CIA director, John\u2064 Brennan.<\/p>\n<p>The\u2063 purpose\u2062 of this \u200csurveillance wasn\u2019t to\u200c discover whether \u2062Trump associates were colluding \u200cwith Moscow. It \u200dwas to make contacts and create interactions with those people through the Five\u200b Eyes agencies and then report those\u2063 contacts to the FBI as suspicious, thus \u2062establishing\u200c a pretext for the FBI Crossfire Hurricane\u2062 investigation.<\/p>\n<p>And\u200b as we all know, Crossfire Hurricane notoriously abused FISA to \u2062spy on Trump associates \u2014\u200c to \u2064say nothing of its \u2063ultimate purpose, which was to destroy\u2062 Trump\u2019s candidacy and, failing that, his \u200cpresidency.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>So please,\u2064 let\u2019s not get distracted with\u2062 hysterics about Russian nukes in space. Want to know where the real threat to our \u2062country is? It\u2019s not in space or in Moscow. It\u2019s in Washington.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">\n<\/div>\n<p> <\/p>\n<h2> How have \u2064intelligence agencies historically used fear and chaos to maintain\u2062 their power\u200c and conduct warrantless \u2064surveillance?<\/h2>\n<p><span>  \u200c The very institutions that are supposed to protect national security \u2014 the intelligence agencies \u2014 are acting in a way that undermines\u2062 it. \u200bBy creating a national security \u2063panic over Russian nukes in\u2063 space, they are trying to divert attention and push their \u2063own agenda forward.<\/p>\n<p>This tactic\u200d is\u200c not new. They use this fear \u2064to \u2064manipulate \u200dlawmakers and the public into believing\u2062 that they are the\u2064 only ones capable \u2064of keeping the country safe.<\/p>\n<p>But the reality is that the real threat to\u200b America lies within \u2063the \u2062political class and the intelligence agencies themselves. They believe they are above the law and\u2064 can operate without any checks\u2062 or balances.\u2064 This is a dangerous mindset that undermines the principles\u200b of democracy\u200c and individual privacy.<\/p>\n<p>The timing of this panic is suspicious.\u2062 It conveniently coincided with a discussion on reforms to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) that would put\u200c an end to warrantless surveillance of Americans.\u200c The\u2064 intelligence agencies, along with the White House, have made it clear that they oppose these reforms. They want to continue \u2063spying on Americans without having to obtain a warrant.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the\u2062 panic\u200d over Russian nukes in space also conveniently occurred after\u200b House Speaker Mike \u200dJohnson expressed his hesitation in approving a\u2064 $61\u200b billion aid package for Ukraine. It \u200bseems that the intelligence \u200bagencies are using this panic to pressure lawmakers into approving the aid package without questioning\u200c its necessity or effectiveness.<\/p>\n<p>It \u200cis telling that Speaker Johnson canceled Congress for the rest of the week following the \u2062hysteria over Russia&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/un-orders-israel-to-get-rid-of-its-nuclear-weapons\/\" title=\"UN Orders Israel to Get Rid of Its Nuclear Weapons\">alleged nuclear weapons<\/a>.
