The incident occurred on March 21, 2023, when Liam Morrison wore a T-shirt that reads, \u201cThere Are Only Two\u2063 Genders\u201d\u200b to Nichols\u2063 Middle School in Middleborough, Massachusetts.\u200c Morrison attended the school as a seventh grader\u2064 at \u2063the time of the incident.<\/p>\n<p>According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/adflegal-live-drupal-files-delivery.s3.amazonaws.com\/public\/2023-05\/Morrison-v-Town-of-Middleborough-2023-05-19-Complaint.pdf?utm_source=foxnews&#038;utm_medium=oped\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">legal\u2063 complaint<\/a> \u2062filed by Morrison\u2019s \u200cattorneys from \u2064Alliance \u200bDefending\u2062 Freedom, the\u2064 boy \u2063was pulled from class \u200cby acting \u2062Principal Heather Tucker, \u2062who ordered Morrison to remove the shirt. \u2063After Morrison declined\u2063 to do so, Tucker \u2063allegedly said he would \u2064not be \u200bpermitted to\u2063 return to \u2063class until he\u2064 removed the shirt, prompting the seventh grader to leave school for \u200bthe day.<\/p>\n<p>Morrison\u2019s\u2064 shirt \u201ccaused no disruptions\u201d at\u2063 the school, according \u200bto the complaint. \u2063The incident prompted Morisson to wear a \u200cdifferent shirt to school that read, \u201cThere Are Censored Genders,\u201d which administrators also forced him to remove, the lawsuit\u200b says.<\/p>\n<p>Officials reportedly cited the school\u2019s official\u200b Dress\u200c Code\u2064 when justifying \u2063their \u200ddecision. That policy <a href=\"https:\/\/adflegal-live-drupal-files-delivery.s3.amazonaws.com\/public\/2023-05\/Morrison-v-Town-of-Middleborough-2023-05-19-Complaint.pdf?utm_source=foxnews&#038;utm_medium=oped\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">bans<\/a> students from wearing \u200dclothes that \u201cstate, imply, or depict hate speech \u2063or\u2064 imagery that target groups based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual \u2064orientation, gender identity,\u2064 religious \u2064affiliation, or any other classification.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The school\u2019s censorious actions \u2063led Morrison, through his father \u2064and \u200bstepmother, to file a <a href=\"https:\/\/adflegal-live-drupal-files-delivery.s3.amazonaws.com\/public\/2023-05\/Morrison-v-Town-of-Middleborough-2023-05-19-Complaint.pdf?utm_source=foxnews&#038;utm_medium=oped\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">lawsuit<\/a> \u2063 against Tucker and the Middleborough School\u200d Committee in May 2023, arguing the school\u2019s actions violated his First and\u200c 14th Amendment rights. \u200cMorrison <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/opinion\/middle-school-silenced-free-speech-t-shirts-two-gender-fighting-back\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">claims<\/a> he\u2019s seen\u200d students wear clothing\u200c that says\u200c \u201call kinds of things\u201d to school, including \u2064one shirt that allegedly said, \u201cHe, she, they, it\u2019s all okay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of people are\u2062 afraid to \u200dspeak up. We shouldn\u2019t be afraid\u2014not to think or speak\u2062 our opinions,\u201d\u2064 Morrison wrote in\u200d a recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/opinion\/middle-school-silenced-free-speech-t-shirts-two-gender-fighting-back\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fox News op-ed<\/a>. \u201cSaying something different from what\u200d others might say shouldn\u2019t be treated as wrong. That\u2019s what makes America great.
