George Santos on Tuesday, dealing a blow \u2062to House Republicans and reducing \u2063their \u200balready slim majority to \u2062just\u2064 two seats. The loss has prompted\u200c some GOP lawmakers to pinpoint the \u2063exact cause for the loss, resulting in some finger-pointing within the Republican conference.<\/p>\n<p>Some lawmakers faulted Republican candidate Mazi\u200c Pilip herself for the loss, arguing the \u2062local lawmaker was not the strongest candidate to take on political veteran\u200b Suozzi.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cMazi Pilip was \u200ba horrible candidate,\u201d<\/strong> Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) said. <strong>\u201cShe was a registered Democrat and hated Trump, that\u2019s a nonstarter in every Republican race in the country and should be the rule.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Greene also suggested the House \u200dshould never have expelled Santos in \u2064the first \u200bplace, claiming \u2064the move only helped Democrats close in on Republicans\u2019 tight majority. However, Republicans \u2062in New York pushed back on that argument, claiming Santos is at fault for the\u2062 loss of the seat.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cI didn\u2019t \u2062shrink the Republican\u200b majority. \u200cGeorge Santos shrunk \u2064it by his actions,\u201d<\/strong> said Rep. Mike Lawler\u2062 (R-NY), who voted \u200dto oust Santos from the House last year. <strong>\u201cI don\u2019t\u2063 regret voting to expel George Santos. He was\u200b unfit to serve.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cThere are a lot of decisions\u2063 that have occurred these last couple\u2064 of months that have shrunk the\u200c majority,\u201d<\/strong> Rep. Marc Molinaro (R-NY) said. \u2064 <strong>\u201cPerhaps George Santos being honest, would have kept it one\u200c more seat \u200dto hear him in Congress.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Despite \u200bthe loss, GOP \u200cleadership projected confidence in the\u200b party\u2019s performance on Tuesday, \u200bnoting Democrats outspent Republicans throughout the \u2063special election cycle for a \u2063district\u200d that Biden\u200c handily won by 8 points in 2020. Lawmakers also pointed to Suozzi\u2019s\u2064 name recognition after previously representing the 3rd District for three terms.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cThe\u2063 voters chose\u2063 a name they knew and a face that they were familiar with,\u201d<\/strong> Molinaro said. <strong>\u201cAnd somebody, quite frankly, that basically ran away from what has been\u2062 the Democratic\u200b agenda for the last two years.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) brushed off threats that the electoral loss was a warning sign\u2064 for Republicans\u2019 majority in November, pointing to Suozzi\u2019s \u2063campaign messaging on the southern border that he said mirrored GOP talking points.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cHe \u2062sounded like \u200da Republican talking about the border \u2062and immigration because everybody knows that\u2019s the top issue,\u201d<\/strong> \u2063 Johnson said. <strong>\u201cNew York 3 was what it was but\u2062 it has nothing to do with\u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/rep-owens-gop-can-win-big-in-2022-2024\/\" title=\"Rep. Owens: GOP can win big in 2022, 2024\">upcoming elections<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The seat will once again be up \u200bfor grabs\u200d on the November ballot. And\u200c New York Republicans\u2064 need\u200d to take\u200b a\u2062 long, hard\u200c look at \u2063themselves \u2064and decide\u200c if they want to win in \u200dNovember or play petty politics.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Other Republicans choose to focus \u2064on the challenges faced by the party\u2064 in \u200ba traditionally \u2062blue district. Rep. Elise Stefanik \u2062(R-NY) acknowledged the difficulty of winning\u200d in a heavily Democratic area, but emphasized\u200c the need for Republicans to field stronger candidates and\u2063 deliver a clear message \u2064to voters.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cWe \u2063need to learn from this\u2062 loss and be prepared to \u2062fight even harder in November,\u201d<\/strong> Stefanik said. <strong>\u201cWe can\u2019t \u200btake\u2063 anything for granted. The Democrats will continue\u200d to challenge us, and we \u2062need to meet that challenge head-on.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>While Republicans may be reflecting on the New York election loss, Democrats are\u200d celebrating their victory and\u2062 using it\u2062 as a sign of hope for the upcoming midterm elections.
