Now that word has finally\u200d made it to Joe\u2064 Biden\u2019s backers in the media that the president is decrepit and \u200bunnervingly off\u200d balance, how long \u200bdo we have\u2064 to wait before they also realize his entire term in office has been\u200b a horrifying, top to bottom pile-up? <\/p>\n

It\u2019s truly \u2062remarkable that even The New York \u200bTimes\u2019 Paul Krugman, who up until now\u200d could practically \u2063find a silver lining \u2064in contracting HIV if it meant defending Biden, is admitting there\u2019s something wrong. In a Monday column, Krugman confessed he\u2019s \u201cdeeply troubled about our nation\u2019s future\u201d following the distressing display at the White House<\/a> last week wherein Biden offered a frail rebuttal \u200dto\u2064 the special counsel report<\/a>, which repeatedly characterized him as a feeble, \u201celderly\u201d person with an impaired memory.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, it\u2019s true that \u2064Biden\u2063 is old, and will be even older if he\u2063 wins re-election and \u200dserves out a second term,\u201d wrote Krugman. \u201cI\u200d wish that Democrats \u200dhad been able to settle on a consensus successor\u2064 a year or two ago and that Biden had been able to step aside\u200d in that successor\u2019s favor without setting off an intraparty \u2062free-for-all.\u201d<\/p>\n

Just\u2063 as the White House has instructed its\u200b outside allies to do<\/a>, Krugman then claimed\u2062 to have personal, secret knowledge that Biden, when\u200c not in public, is actually a brilliant conversationalist \u2063with \u2062a rapier wit. <\/p>\n

\u201cAs anyone who has recently spent time with Biden (and I have) can tell you, he is in full possession of\u2063 his faculties \u2014 completely lucid and with excellent grasp\u2064 of detail,\u201d he wrote. \u201c[Y]es,\u2063 he speaks quietly and a bit slowly,\u200c although\u200d this\u200c is in part because of his lifetime struggle with stuttering. The president perpetually on camera during\u200b those years\u200c was always the same\u2014\u00a0strident, wickedly funny, and unreserved in \u2064talking with reporters. But then Michael Wolff told us<\/a> that,\u2064 according to his own covert knowledge, Trump in \u200bprivate was borderline comatose. Boy, oh boy, did the media buy \u2063into that story! The\u2064 25th Amendment was suddenly all the rage.<\/p>\n
Admittedly, an official\u200b government report from the Justice Department describing the\u2064 president as an \u201celderly man with a poor \u200cmemory\u201d and \u201csignificant limitations\u201d on his mental recollections doesn\u2019t carry quite \u200dthe gravity of \u2064a book written by an author preoccupied<\/a> with Rupert Murdoch\u2019s sex life. But surely \u200bit counts for something.<\/p>\n
The alarm grew too loud for\u2062 Paul Krugman to\u200d ignore. That must count for something, too.<\/p>\n
