Already, over 1,400 flights have been canceled, and heavy snowfall is primarily affecting New York and other nearby regions.<\/p>\n<p>The New York \u2064State Department of Transportation declared a notice for individuals traveling on Interstate-84 and other\u2064 state highways due to the \u2062substantial snow and powerful winds. In the meantime, the National Weather Service recommended to travelers\u200c in the Big Apple and \u2064Long Island to have \u201cextra caution or\u2063 simply avoid travel.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, \u2062the strongest snowfall in the Northeast occurred\u200b between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. local time, which resulted in almost 1,500 flights being canceled as of 12:00 p.m., <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flightaware.com\/live\/cancelled\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according<\/a> to FlightAware.com.<\/p>\n<p>Of the canceled flights, the most impacted airports in the\u200b Northeast involved 43% of flights out of\u2064 LaGuardia Airport, 27% \u2062of flights at Boston Logan International, 26% at Newark Liberty International, \u2063and 17% at John F. The National Weather Service \u200bwarned that this could cause \u201clocally significant \u2063travel disruptions\u201d due to strong\u2064 winds and\u2063 heavy,\u2062 wet snow that \u201cmay result in downed trees and power lines.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The agency additionally warned that \u200dthere could be \u201cvery difficult\u201d travel conditions south of Pennsylvania due to \u201cheavy, wet \u200dsnow\u201d that is expected to\u200c affect parts of Maryland, West\u200d Virginia, and northern Virginia.<\/p>\n<p>There is a high likelihood that significant power outages will be prompted\u2062 due to the winter storm, according to the National Weather Service.
