The sentencing was delivered by \u2062U.S. District Judge John Kness on Monday, following Mapes&#8217; conviction in August\u200c 2023 on charges of\u200d perjury and attempted obstruction of justice.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThis is a\u200d very \u200csad case \u200cto me \u200cbecause I don\u2019t \u200cunderstand why you did\u2062 what you did,\u201d\u200c Kness said, per the \u2062Chicago Tribune. \u201cYou were immunized in the grand jury, and all you had to do was go in there and tell \u200bthe truth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou knew what you\u2063 were doing when you went into the grand jury, and\u200d you lied,\u201d Kness added. \u201cI don\u2019t know why you did this. Perhaps this was out \u2064of some \u2062sense of loyalty, but\u200d if \u2064that\u2019s\u200d the case, your\u2064 loyalty was greatly \u2064misguided.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Mapes, \u200cwho served \u200das \u2062the Democrat&#8217;s \u2064chief of staff \u2064for nearly two \u2064decades, was forced to resign in \u200bJune\u200c 2018 due to \u2064<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/watch-chris-cuomo-says-hed-consider-voting-for-trump-over-biden\/\" title=\"VIDEO: Chris Cuomo Open to Voting for Trump Instead of Biden\">sexual harassment\u200c allegations<\/a>.
