Moments after the Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl, Joe Biden\u2019s account mocked conspiracy theorists by\u00a0 tweeting<\/a>\u00a0a \u201cDark Brandon\u201d meme\u2014the one where the doddering president features laser eyes\u2014with the words, \u201cJust like we drew it up\u201d underneath. Sure, it\u2019s cringy and dumb, but a cartoon might be the only way to make the president appear operational.<\/p>\n

After Special Counsel Robert Hur\u2019s report concluded Biden was too feeble-minded to stand trial for his alleged decades-long mishandling of classified information, the White House immediately tried to create the impression that Biden, whose mental acuity was never anything to write home about, was the sharpest octogenarian in the country. Look for a torrent of \u201cleaks\u201d portraying the president as a robust force of nature.<\/p>\n

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre swears that Biden \u201cdoes more in one hour than most people do in a day.\u201d Also, Biden is angry. Really angry. <\/p>\n

The president,\u00a0 we learned<\/a>, was \u201cprivately livid\u201d over the Hur report, particularly the claim \u201che didn\u2019t remember when Beau died.\u201d Speaking at the House Democrat retreat last week, Biden \u201cangrily cursed about the language in the report.\u201d In private, Biden also\u00a0 called<\/a>\u00a0Benjamin Netanyahu, his top red herring these days, an \u201cassh-le\u201d in \u201cat least 3 instances.\u201d (As Biden spent the week pressuring Netanyahu to give Hamas a pass, Israel freed another two hostages.)<\/p>\n

Anger isn\u2019t a sign of youthful exuberance, and lashing out at people, as Biden often does when asked even slightly discomforting questions, shouldn\u2019t be confused with mental competency. Those in cognitive decline, in fact, are often irritated by questions\u2014they may yell things like, \u201c C\u2019mon, man<\/a>!\u201d in frustration\u2014and become aggressive about their memory loss. They also create alternative timelines and conflate memories, as Biden seems to do even more these days than usual. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Some Biden allies have claimed the president is no worse than Donald Trump. As Ian Bremmer\u00a0 notes<\/a>, for example, while Biden mixed up Egyptian President Sisi with Mexican President Andr\u00e9s Manuel L\u00f3pez Obrador and living Emmanuel Macron with the departed Francois Mitterrand, Trump mixed up Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban with Turkish President Recep Erdogan and Nikki Haley with Nancy Pelosi.<\/p>\n

Both guys are old, sure, but Biden also\u00a0 couldn\u2019t remember<\/a>\u00a0Winston Churchill\u2019s name when speaking to the prime minister of Britain or the name of Hamas during <\/a>a press conference\u00a0about Hamas<\/em>. In his interview with the special counsel, Biden struggled to recall the years he was vice president of the United States and when his son died. Before the Super Bowl, Biden sent out a video complaining about \u201cShrinkflation<\/a>\u201d \u2013 as if he didn\u2019t play a part in making it happen \u2014 and he could barely read the teleprompters.<\/p>\n

Biden can barely speak extemporaneously with a friendly media. The president of the United States says something spectacularly bonkers every week, and we all just go on with our day.\u00a0Not that any of this is surprising, as the least-interviewed president in modern history campaigned from a bunker last time around. He\u2019s not going to get sharper over the next four years. That\u2019s not how time or the human body works.<\/p>\n

Or, as Biden might\u00a0 say<\/a>\u00a0for no fathomable reason, \u201cGod save the queen, man.\u201d<\/p>\n

While the White House worked to de-age Biden, Democrats attacked Hur, named by Biden\u2019s Attorney General Merrick Garland, as a political agent of the GOP. The president\u2019s personal lawyer, Bob Bauer,\u00a0 argued<\/a>\u00a0the special counsel\u2019s report is not only misleading but a \u201cshoddy\u201d document containing numerous \u201cmisstatements of fact.\u201d There\u2019s an easy way to clear this all up: the DOJ should release the transcripts of the interviews with the president. Let\u2019s see the conversation.<\/p>\n
Hur did the president a favor by letting him slide. If Biden\u2019s mental acuity is as razor-sharp as Democrats claim, Hur would be\u00a0 compelled to recommend charges against the president<\/a>. Biden\u2019s treatment of classified documents was no better, and probably far worse, than Trump\u2019s, considering Biden was hoarding and sharing top-secret documents long before he was president. <\/p>\n
Now, if Biden steps down (and I\u2019m highly skeptical that\u2019s going to happen), not much will change. Maybe a younger, more popular candidate would present a stronger match-up for Trump. Maybe not. Incumbency is a powerful tool. We know the politics won\u2019t change much. <\/p>\n
The president, who peddled himself as a moderate in 2020, has taken virtually every far-left position imaginable. His recent placation of Hamas apologists within the Democrat Party is just the latest example of a moral spinelessness that goes back five decades. He\u2019s not a puppet. He\u2019s just weak.<\/p>\n
You can disagree about his principles, but please stop telling us he\u2019s okay. You don\u2019t have to be a\u00a0 neurologist<\/a>\u00a0to see that the president is struggling with coherence and competency. Nor is anything particularly wrong with Biden\u2019s difficulties. Most people his age, many of whom are far sharper than the president, have long retired. So should Joe.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n
