This interview marks \u2063the \u200cfirst \u2062time Putin has agreed to speak \u2062with a Western\u2062 journalist since the\u200c invasion of Ukraine two years ago.<\/p>\n<p>One European Parliament member, Guy Verhofstadt, the former prime minister of \u2064Belgium, suggested imposing a &#8220;travel ban&#8221; on Carlson for acting as a &#8220;mouthpiece&#8221; for\u2064 Putin.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;As Putin is a war criminal and the\u200b EU sanctions all who assist him in that effort, it seems logical\u2064 that the External Action Service examine his case as well,&#8221; Verhofstadt told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/tucker-carlson-sanctions-eu-putin-interview-1867655\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Newsweek<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The External Action Service (EAS)\u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/xi-warned-putin-against-using-nukes-in-ukraine-report\/\" title=\"Xi cautioned Putin against deploying nuclear weapons in Ukraine, according to reports.\">oversees foreign policy<\/a> for the European Union, including matters\u2062 of diplomacy and sanctions. If the EAS finds sufficient evidence and deems sanctions\u200c necessary, the case will be presented to the \u2064European Council, composed \u200dof\u2062 European government leaders, for approval.<\/p>\n<p>Urmas Paet, a member of the European Parliament from Estonia, also \u200dsupported a travel ban\u200b against\u200d Carlson, stating in an interview with Ukrainian news:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Carlson\u200d wants to \u200bgive \u200da platform to someone accused\u200c of crimes of genocide \u2014 this is wrong.
