She highlighted the potential consequences\u2062 of not completing the training, stating, \u200d&#8221;The bill proposes that\u200b without the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/implicit-bias-is-nothing-but-divisive-junk-science\/\" title=\"\u2018Implicit Bias\u2019 Is Nothing But Divisive Junk Science\">implicit bias training<\/a>, licenses will not be able to \u200bbe renewed, and this is a little surprising in a time when we&#8217;ve heard much news about \u200bthe \u200black of nurses and physicians available to take\u2064 care of patients already.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>The Details of Senate Bill 35<\/h3>\n<p>Senate \u200dBill 35 mandates that the Board\u2063 of Medicine and the Board of Nursing require licensed individuals to participate \u200bin continuing learning activities focused on unconscious bias \u2064and \u2063cultural competency.<\/p>\n<p>The bill states, &#8220;Such unconscious\u2062 bias and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/minnesota-teachers-now-required-to-pass-native-american-cultural-competency-training\/\" title=\"Minnesota teachers must now pass Native American cultural competency training.\">cultural\u2062 competency training<\/a>\u2062 shall be required for every license renewal period for licensees of the Board.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Morgan shared stories she had heard\u2063 from nurses in other states where similar bias training \u2063had been enforced. She revealed that\u200b some \u2062nurses\u2063 had chosen to leave the profession \u200brather than comply with these principles.<\/p>\n<p>According to\u200b Morgan,\u2062 the nursing profession already emphasizes equal treatment for all patients, making \u200cthe push for implicit bias training feel unnecessary and insulting to many\u2063 medical professionals.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Physicians and\u2063 nurses are taught from day one to treat\u200d all patients equally, but unfortunately concepts\u200d like implicit bias go along with other concepts such \u200cas health equity which\u2062 doesn&#8217;t have anything\u200d to do with equality,&#8221; Morgan explained.<\/p>\n<p>The bill \u2062is sponsored by three Democrats, state Sens. Mamie Locke, Jennifer Carroll Foy, and Lashrecse Aird, and one lone Republican, Sen. \u200dChris Head from the Roanoke area.<\/p>\n<p>Morgan expressed disappointment \u200cwith Head&#8217;s support of the bill, stating, &#8220;It&#8217;s really disappointing \u200bthat this happened\u2063 because the concepts of implicit bias are really in direct opposition to what equality means. To go along to bring about some sort of utopian state of health equity, which is not conceivable, is surprising.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the mandatory bias training \u200cwould come with a hefty price \u200ctag of approximately $3.5\u2064 million starting\u2063 in 2025.
