In \u200c2016, a \u200dgroup of delegates made a last-ditch effort to prevent former President Donald Trump from becoming the party&#8217;s nominee. However, \u2064this time around, party\u2063 members are confident that\u200d there will be no\u200b outbursts from delegates.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It didn&#8217;t happen then, and it&#8217;s not\u200d going to happen now,&#8221; declared David Bossie, a Trump ally and RNC \u200dmember from Maryland. &#8220;There is no one who is \u2062going to attempt to do that&#8230; Not one iota of it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>No Upheaval\u200c Expected<\/h3>\n<p>With Trump&#8217;s primary wins in Iowa and New Hampshire, as well as his significant lead \u2062over\u2064 former U.N. \u2063Ambassador Nikki Haley, party officials believe that any potential upheaval\u2062 or resistance\u200c to his nomination is highly unlikely. Trump&#8217;s\u2064 allies and several state GOP\u200d members \u200chave worked tirelessly to modify rules, ensuring that\u200d all \u200bdelegates go to the winner, who \u200bis predicted to be the former president.<\/p>\n<p>In California, a new procedure implemented in July 2023 grants\u200b all delegates\u2064 to a candidate who receives over 50% of the primary vote. Given Trump&#8217;s\u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/rep-steve-cohen-erupts-during-hearing-after-nc-lt-gov-mark-robinson-accuses-dems-of-using-black-people-as-pawns\/\" title=\"Rep. Mark Robinson Accuses Dems Of Using Black People As Pawns\">strong polling numbers<\/a> in the Golden State, he\u2064 is virtually guaranteed\u2063 the\u2062 delegate votes from California.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, Haley should \u200cnot rely on a convention floor\u2062 fight to boost her \u200ccampaign for the \u200dparty&#8217;s nomination.<\/p>\n<h3>Rules \u2062and Reality<\/h3>\n<p>While rules could\u200c potentially be changed, Morton Blackwell, a\u2063 member of the RNC&#8217;s convention \u200drules committee, believes \u200bit would\u200d be unlikely\u200b and unfair. &#8220;Absent a \u2063cement truck coming around the corner and killing the nominee,&#8221; he stated, &#8220;it probably wouldn&#8217;t pass.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Blackwell emphasized that there is a lot of \u2063speculation without any basis in\u2063 reality.<\/p>\n<h3>Changing Tides<\/h3>\n<p>In 2016, party members who opposed Trump&#8217;s nomination advocated for delegates\u200d to be released from their obligations to support a specific candidate, hoping \u2062to boost Sen. Ted Cruz as the Republican nominee. However, the &#8220;Free the Delegates&#8221; movement failed, and its leader,\u200c Kendal\u2063 Unruh, left the party.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The people who I was fighting alongside with in 2016 \u2014 those people are now fully \u2063onboard with Trump,&#8221; Unruh stated. &#8220;He has a lock on [the nomination].&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>Delegate Obligations and Waivers<\/h3>\n<p>According \u2063to RNC \u2064rules, over \u206494% of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/if-conservatives-cant-get-good-laws-how-can-they-run-an-article-v-convention\/\" title=\"If Conservatives Can\u2019t Get Good Laws, How Can They Run An Article V Convention?\">convention delegates<\/a> are \u200brequired to vote\u200d for the \u2064candidate\u200d they were sent to support\u200b by their state parties, at least for the first round\u200b of balloting. However, there is a provision\u2064 that \u200bcould allow delegates to be unbound. The RNC&#8217;s 168-member body has the power to grant a &#8220;waiver&#8221; if it is deemed in the best interests of the party and compliance \u2063with delegate \u200dobligations is impossible.<\/p>\n<p>Ken Cuccinelli, \u200bformer leader\u2062 of the super PAC Never \u200bBack Down and supporter of Gov. Ron \u200dDeSantis, criticized the rule changes, arguing that \u2062they do not reflect the\u200c will of \u2064the voters. Party leaders recognize the importance of\u200b a cohesive and focused campaign to secure victory in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/rep-owens-gop-can-win-big-in-2022-2024\/\" title=\"Rep.
