Those are strong words \u200cwhere I\u200b come from. (Sorry, Mom.)<\/p>\n<p>The\u200d reporter immediately understood that my frustration was not directed \u200dat her. Rather, it was directed at the Law\u200c Firm of Schumer &#038; McConnell (The Firm\u2122\ufe0f), which is \u2062perpetually trying\u200c to normalize a corrupt approach\u2062 to legislating, in which\u200b The Firm\u2122\ufe0f:<\/p>\n<h3>The\u200d Corrupt Approach of The Firm\u2122\ufe0f<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Spends \u2063months \u2063drafting legislation in complete secrecy<\/li>\n<li>Aggressively markets that \u200blegislation based not on its\u2062 details and practical \u2062implications (good \u200cand bad), \u2062but only on its broadest, least-controversial\u200d objectives<\/li>\n<li>Lets \u200bmembers see bill text for\u200b the first time only a few days (sometimes a few hours) before \u2062an arbitrary deadline imposed by\u200d The Firm\u2122\ufe0f itself, \u200dalways with a \u200bcontrived sense of urgency<\/li>\n<li>Forces\u2064 a vote on the legislation on or before that\u200c deadline, denying senators any real opportunity to read, digest, and debate the measure on its merits, much less introduce, consider, and vote on amendments to fix \u200cany perceived problems with\u2062 the bill or otherwise improve it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Whenever The Firm\u2122\ufe0f engages in this practice, \u2062it largely excludes nearly \u200devery senator from the constitutionally prescribed process in\u2064 which all senators are supposed\u200b to participate. By so doing, The Firm\u2122\ufe0f effectively disenfranchises hundreds of millions of Americans \u2014 at least for purposes\u2064 relevant to the legislation at hand \u2014 and\u200b that\u2019s tragic. \u200bIt\u2019s\u200c also un-American, uncivil, uncollegial, and\u2062 really uncool.<\/p>\n<p>So why \u2063does The Firm\u2122\ufe0f do it?<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-239baecb34d724613823876b642574cd fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-239baecb34d724613823876b642574cd\"><\/div>\n<p>Every time\u2064 The Firm\u2122\ufe0f utilizes this\u2064 approach and the bill passes \u2014 and it nearly always does \u2014 The Firm\u2122\ufe0f becomes more powerful.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/u-s-sending-billions-to-ukraine-but-not-the-systems-that-they-need\/\" title=\"U.S. Sending Billions to Ukraine, But Not the Systems That They Need\">high success rate<\/a> is largely attributable to the fact\u2064 that The Firm\u2122\ufe0f has become very adept at (a) enlisting the help\u200d of the (freakishly cooperative) corporate \u200bmedia,\u2064 (b) exerting peer \u2064pressure in a way that \u2062makes what you experienced in \u200cmiddle \u200cschool look mild\u2063 by comparison, and (c) rewarding those who consistently vote\u2064 with The Firm\u2122\ufe0f with\u200d various privileges that The Firm\u2122\ufe0f is uniquely capable of offering, such\u200c as committee\u200b assignments, help with campaign fundraising, and a whole\u2064 host of other widely coveted things that\u2064 The Firm\u2122\ufe0f\u2064 is free \u200dto distribute \u200cin any manner it pleases.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s through this process that The Firm\u2122\ufe0f passes most major\u200c spending legislation. And it\u2019s through this process that\u2063 The Firm\u2122\ufe0f\u200b likely \u200cintends to pass the\u200d still-secret, $106 billion \u200csupplemental \u2062aid\/border-security package, which The Firm\u2122\ufe0f has spent four months negotiating with the \u2064luxury\u200b of obsessing \u2064over every sentence, word, period, and comma.<\/p>\n<p>I still\u2064 don\u2019t know exactly what\u2019s in \u200bthis bill, although\u200b I have serious concerns with it based \u200bon the few\u200d details The Firm\u2122\ufe0f\u200d has been willing to share. But under \u2063no \u200bcircumstances should this bill \u2014 which would fund\u2064 military operations in three distant parts of the world and \u2063make \u200cmassive, permanent changes to immigration \u200claw \u2014 be passed \u200bnext week.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-3d5f70eb2eea1e08d50de0a763750d14 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-3d5f70eb2eea1e08d50de0a763750d14\"><\/div>\n<p>Nor\u200c should it be passed \u2064until\u2062 we have had adequate time to read the bill, discuss it with constituents,\u2064 debate \u2062it, offer amendments, \u2063and vote on those\u2062 amendments.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s no universe in which those things will happen by next week.<\/p>\n<p>Depending on\u2064 how long it is and the complexity \u2064of\u200d its provisions, the minimum period of \u200dtime\u2064 we should devote to this \u200bbill after it\u2019s released should be \u2064measured in weeks or months, not days or hours.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-2a58af5e6584f53fade6ec73f5a84c54 fdrlst__b89e9-after-post-content\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-2a58af5e6584f53fade6ec73f5a84c54\"><\/div>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">\n<\/div>\n<p> <\/p>\n<h2> What role does <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/why-this-average-american-is-voting-for-donald-trump\/\" title=\"Why This Average American Is Voting for Donald Trump\">mainstream media<\/a>\u200b play in promoting The Firm\u2122\ufe0f&#8217;s agenda?<\/h2>\n<p><span>  Ve) mainstream media in \u2064promoting its agenda, and (b) finding ways\u200d to convince enough senators, through\u200c\u2062 pressure,\u2063 persuasion, or promises of pet projects, to \u200cback the legislation. In other words, The\u2064 Firm\u2122\ufe0f has \u2062mastered the \u2064art of\u200b manipulating the \u2062system \u2063to achieve its desired outcomes, regardless of the merits\u2062 of the legislation itself.<\/p>\n<p>And what happens when The Firm\u2122\ufe0f gets its way? The American people lose. \u2063We \u200dlose because we \u2064are denied a transparent and accountable legislative process. We lose because \u200cwe don&#8217;t have the opportunity\u200c to fully understand \u200bthe impact of the legislation on our lives and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/oregon-governor-encourages-people-to-call-police-on-neighbors-violating-covid-orders\/\" title=\"Oregon Governor Encourages People To Call Police On Neighbors Violating COVID Orders\">make informed decisions<\/a>. \u2063We lose \u200bbecause our representatives are not able to fully \u2064vet and\u2063 improve the bills that are put before them. It&#8217;s time to demand a better and more open legislative process. It&#8217;s time to reject the \u200dcorrupt\u2062 approach of The \u200cFirm\u2122\ufe0f and hold\u200c our\u200b lawmakers accountable for their actions.
