Earlier \u2063this \u200dmonth, committee members from the Michigan GOP <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/group-of-michigan-gop-committee-members-vote-to-oust-state-party-chair-she-says-they-have-no-authority-to-remove-her\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">gathered for a special meeting to \u2064vote<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">  on\u200b the \u2062removal of party chair,\u2064 Kristina Karamo. \u200dNearly 90% \u2062of those\u200c attending the special meeting voted to oust Karamo \u2063as she faces criticism for her fundraising strategy, failing to address \u200cthe party\u2019s debt, and surrounding herself with questionable advisers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">But Karamo is refusing\u2064 to\u200c step down. She holds that those who voted to remove her have no authority\u200c to do so. And Karamo\u2019s supporters continue to fight the rest\u2062 of the\u2063 state party, claiming she remains the rightful leader of the Michigan GOP.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>Party Divided: Battle for Michigan GOP Leadership<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Meanwhile, the faction of Michigan \u200cRepublicans who \u200bvoted to oust Karamo chose Peter\u200b Hoekstra, a former\u200c congressman \u200dand Ambassador\u200c to the Netherlands \u200dunder Trump, to replace her as party \u2062chair.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hoekstra boasts the endorsement of Trump, his former\u200d boss, as\u200c he seeks\u200d to unify Michigan Republicans around him and \u2062move on from Karamo. Lawyers for\u2062 the Republican\u200d National Committee chimed in on the crisis last Wednesday, writing that they had conducted an \u200d\u201cinitial \u2062review\u201d of the fight over state chair and\u2063 found that \u201cKaramo was properly removed\u2063 in accordance with the MI GOP bylaws.\u201d The \u200dRNC lawyers, however, said their determination \u2064was not a final ruling and\u200d could change if additional information is provided, CBS News <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/detroit\/news\/michigan-gop-chair-karamo-was-properly-removed-from-position-national-republican-party-says\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">reported<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. The RNC later removed Karamo\u2019s name and photo from its <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/gop.com\/about-our-party\/rnc-members\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">website<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, no longer recognizing her as state party chair.\u200d <\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In a phone \u2064interview \u2062with The\u200d Daily Wire last week, Karamo said the opposition to her and the battle over the state party chair has distracted Republicans from their \u201cmission.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe need to \u2063be \u200dfocused on the mission and not ourselves,\u201d\u200d she said. \u201cAnd that\u2019s kind of been\u2063 the problem in the Republican Party. I got \u200dinvolved in the party in college, and since that time in \u2062the party,\u2063 I\u2019ve watched Republicans cannibalize each other repeatedly because we\u2019re radical individualists.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Karamo also took jabs\u2064 at Hoekstra during \u2062her conversation \u200dwith The Daily\u2064 Wire, calling him a \u201cgoofball\u201d who is \u201cwasting\u2062 everybody\u2019s time because he wants to throw his own weight \u200baround.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cEven though the majority of \u2064the committee wants me\u2063 as chair, Pete [Hoekstra] doesn\u2019t\u2063 care about that. \u200bHe\u2019s got a little faction. While\u2062 many of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.detroitnews.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2024\/01\/13\/separate-michigan-gop-group-votes-to-keep-kristina-karamo-as-chair\/72216510007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">107<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">  \u200bGOP committee members voted\u2062 in favor of keeping Karamo during a\u2063 gathering on January 13, those opposed\u200c to \u2062her leadership and the RNC\u2019s \u200clawyers hold that she was successfully removed from her position on January 6, \u200bmaking her special \u2062meeting a week later\u2062 null and void.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The special\u2062 meeting held on January \u20646 by those seeking Karamo\u2019s removal saw 40 members \u2062of the committee vote to \u2064remove her, which represented 88% of those in \u200cattendance as\u2062 many of Karamo\u2019s supporters refused to attend the meeting. Karamo has \u200bsince <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgemi.com\/michigan-government\/karamo-demands-michigan-gop-foes-cease-and-desist-defaming-her\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">threatened<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">  to take legal \u200baction against the Republicans \u200bwho say \u200bthey have rightfully \u2064removed her as the state GOP chair.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>Allegations of Financial Instability and Covert \u200cInfluence<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The back-and-forth has sparked a civil\u200c war within \u200dthe Michigan Republican Party as Karamo and her faithful followers argue that the effort to remove her was \u201cillegal\u201d while those who voted to oust Karamo, led \u2063by Acting Chair Malinda Pego, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox17online.com\/news\/local-news\/michigan\/kristina-karamo-faces-lawsuit-by-michigan-republican-party\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">filed a lawsuit<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">  against her and requested a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breaking-georgia-update-judge-issues-restraining-order-for-10-days-preventing-defendants-from-destroying-or-erasing-dominion-voting-machines\/\" title=\"BREAKING GEORGIA UPDATE: Judge Issues Restraining Order for 10 Days Preventing Defendants from Destroying or Erasing Dominion Voting Machines\">temporary restraining order<\/a>, seeking to force her removal. The anti-Karamo faction is seeking to have its \u200cposition recognized either by\u200c the \u200ccourts or by the Republican National Committee, hoping to bring back donors who \u2063jumped ship\u200c under Karamo, Hoekstra said, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgemi.com\/michigan-government\/michigan-gop-faction-sues-karamo-picks-hoekstra-replace-her\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">according<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">  to Bridge Michigan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Five committee members of the Michigan GOP, including Carpenter,\u2063 recently sounded alarm bells, telling investigative journalist Scott McMahan with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/biggertruthmedia.com\/five-whistleblowers-expose-covert-operation-to-brainwash-christian-grassroots-in-effort-to-destroy-michigan-gop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Bigger \u2064Truth Media<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">  \u200bthat the controversy surrounding Karamo extends to those within her inner \u2063circle. \u2063According to the committee members who spoke to Bigger Truth\u200c Media, Karamo is\u200c being\u2064 influenced by an \u2062operative named Mike Labadie, who was reportedly registered as a Democrat\u200c in California as \u2062recently as 2016 before he moved to Michigan and got involved with Republican politics.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">JD Glaser, the\u2064 GOP chair for Michigan\u2019s 5th \u200dDistrict told The Daily Wire that Karamo\u2019s removal perfectly followed the \u200bGOP\u2019s bylaws.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Karamo, a former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/san-diego-teachers-union-passes-resolution-that-rejects-israels-legitimacy\/\" title=\"San Diego Teachers\u2019 Union Passes Resolution That Rejects Israel\u2019s Legitimacy\">community college teacher<\/a>, took over as party chair in early 2023 following her 2022 election loss in the secretary of state race \u2064to Democrat \u2062Jocelyn Benson. During\u200b her SoS campaign, Karamo aligned\u200b herself with Trump\u2063 \u2014 who endorsed her \u2014 and focused on challenging the 2020 presidential results\u2064 in Michigan, arguing\u200c that \u2062Trump won the state. While she came up short in her effort to win the SoS race,\u2064 Karamo won the hearts of many conservatives in the state who\u200d viewed her as a rising star in the GOP.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Less than a year\u200d after taking control of the state party, however, \u200dthe feelings toward Karamo have\u2062 shifted among many conservatives, and Trump, who backed her run for SoS, wants a change. But not\u200b even a Trump endorsement of Hoekstra as Michigan GOP chair last Friday\u200d has seemed to \u200cfaze Karamo in her attempt to stay at the party\u2019s helm. Asked by Detroit News reporter Craig Mauger if Trump\u2019s backing of Hoekstra changes her\u2064 thinking, Karamo <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CraigDMauger\/status\/1751039124599963894\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">responded<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, \u201cAbsolutely not.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For many of \u200bthe committee members who oppose \u2063Karamo, the cracks within \u2064the Michigan GOP\u2064 started to show months before the opposing meetings held on January 6 and 13. Michigan Republicans began to distrust Karamo\u200c after the former chair of the\u200c 9th district, Warren Carpenter, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/detroit\/news\/draft-report-alleges-michigan-gop-is-more-than-half-a-million-dollars-in-debt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">revealed<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">  shocking \u200cinfo about the Michigan GOP\u2019s financial instability.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In September \u200d2023, the party had \u200cinvited multiple high-profile speakers \u2014 such as \u200dactor Jim Caviezel \u2014 to be featured at the Mackinac \u2064Republican Leadership Conference, but\u2063 there was one problem. The Michigan GOP couldn\u2019t afford the speakers, so it took out a loan to cover Caviezel\u2019s $110,000 speaker fee. \u2062The Mackinac event,\u200c which the party usually relies on for a huge \u200bfundraising haul, \u2063didn\u2019t raise any money for the Michigan GOP. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The party\u2019s financial troubles continued \u2064as it went into debt and \u200c <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgemi.com\/michigan-government\/bank-michigan-gop-defaulted-500k-loan-hasnt-made-payment-months\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">defaulted<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">  on a half-a-million-dollar loan.
