Here are some of them:

1.⁤ Health studies and medical care: The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has⁢ conducted health studies to determine‍ the effects of exposure ⁢to contaminated water at Camp Lejeune. Based on the findings, the VA provides medical care and disability compensation for eligible veterans and their family members‍ affected by the water contamination.

2.⁤ Water treatment ‍and monitoring: The military has made efforts to improve water quality at ⁢Camp Lejeune. Extensive ‌water treatment systems have been installed to remove or ‌reduce contaminants. ‍Regular monitoring ⁢is conducted to ensure the water meets safety standards.

3. Notification process: The Camp Lejeune community has been informed about the ‌water contamination issue through a rigorous notification process. Various mediums, including military ‍websites, direct‌ mails, and public meetings, were used to ⁣reach out to affected individuals and inform them about ⁢potential health risks.

4. Congressional action: In 2012, the U.S. Congress passed the Camp Lejeune Veterans and Family Act, allowing healthcare provisions to‌ be‌ extended to veterans and their families affected by the ⁢contaminants. This ‍legislation‍ provides medical care and reimbursement for ⁣eligible conditions related to the exposure.

5. EPA involvement: The Environmental Protection‌ Agency‌ (EPA) has actively participated in addressing the water contamination issue ⁤at Camp Lejeune. They have provided technical assistance, conducted water quality testing, and collaborated with the military to ensure compliance ‍with ⁣federal drinking water standards.

6. Research and awareness: Ongoing research and studies are being conducted to further understand the long-term⁤ health‍ effects of exposure⁤ to the tainted water. ‍The results of these studies help raise ⁤awareness, inform public health actions, and improve the handling⁢ of similar incidents in the future.

It is important to note that the⁣ measures taken to address the issue at Camp Lejeune‍ continue to evolve based on new information, research findings, and the needs of the affected community.

Federal health officials reported that military personnel stationed at Camp Lejeune from 1975 to 1985 faced a 20% higher risk of various cancers compared to those stationed elsewhere.
