There\u2019s a clip\u2064 going around of Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar talking to a group of Somalians about \u200cher allegiances and priorities as a U.S. congresswoman. \u2064What Omar says is instructive, not just\u2064 about her general worldview but mostly (and more importantly) about how backward and destructive our\u200b immigration system is.<\/p>\n

Omar is a woman\u200c of the left, but her speech over the weekend was pure blood-and-soil nationalism \u200d\u2014 \u200cfor Somalia, not \u200cAmerica.<\/p>\n

She tells them she\u2019s a \u2063Somalian first and a Muslim second. She doesn\u2019t even mention the United \u200bStates or her citizenship here. She promises to\u2062 use her power and influence in Congress to protect her \u2063nation\u2019s interests. (Again, that nation being Somalia, not America.)<\/p>\n

Speaking in Somali, Omar \u200btells the cheering crowd that her \u201ctop priority\u201d is to expand\u200d Somalia\u2019s territory. \u200c\u201cAs Somalis, one \u2064day \u2062we will go after our missing territories,\u201d she says, referencing disputed regions in Kenya \u200band Ethiopia.<\/p>\n

She brags that\u2064 the U.S. government \u201cwill only do what Somalians in\u200d the U.S. tell them to do. They will do\u2064 what we want and nothing \u2064else. They must follow our orders, and that is how we will safeguard the interest of Somalia. We Somalians must have\u2063 the \u2062confidence in ourselves that we call the shots \u200bin the U.S.\u201d<\/p>\n
