It also prohibits males from competing in female sports across the state, grades K-12, and the collegiate level.<\/p>\n<p>When DeWine initially vetoed the bill, he argued that passing the it would hinder parental rights.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOhio would be saying that the state, that the government, knows better what is medically best for a child than the two people who love that child the most, the parents,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He also made the claim that he was acting to preserve \u201clife.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUltimately, I believe this is about protecting human life,\u201d DeWine said. \u201cMany parents have told me that their child would not have survived, would be dead today, if they had not received the treatment they received from one of Ohio\u2019s children\u2019s hospitals. I\u2019ve also been told by those who are now grown adults that but for this care, they would have taken their life when they were teenagers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Though Republicans are generally in agreement that these types of irreversible procedures are harmful for children and therefore should be banned, Republicans like former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie have argued in the way of DeWine.<\/p>\n<p>While making his short-lived 2024 presidential bid, Christie <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/4065197-christie-knocks-transgender-health-care-bans-on-campaign-trail\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">argued<\/a> that procedures like double mastectomies and penis-removing vaginoplasty surgeries\u00a0are a \u201cparent\u2019s decision.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-9096\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1700760801843000&#038;usg=AOvVaw2PQrVSrJfhxNb4LcARqniG\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think that the government should ever be stepping into the place of the parents in helping to move their children through a process where those children are confused or concerned about their gender,\u201d Christie <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/4065197-christie-knocks-transgender-health-care-bans-on-campaign-trail\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> CNN.\u00a0\u201cThe parents are the people who are best positioned to make these judgments.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat I\u2019d like to make sure each state does is require that parents be involved in these decisions,\u201d he added. \u201cFolks who are under the age of 18 should have parental support and guidance and love as they make all of the key decisions of their life, and this should not be one that\u2019s excluded by the government in any way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The law will take effect in about three months.<\/p>\n<p><em>Zach Jewell contributed to this report.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Related:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/ohio-house-votes-to-override-gop-governors-veto-on-banning-gender-procedures-on-children-biological-boys-competing-in-girls-sports\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ohio House Votes To Override GOP Governor\u2019s Veto On Banning Gender Procedures On Children, Biological Boys Competing In Girls\u00a0Sports<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ohio Republicans on Wednesday successfully banned transgender hormone treatments and procedures from being performed on children, and barred boys and men from competing against girls and women in athletic competitions.
