The result is that he has smashed \u200drecords for illegal immigration.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2455010\/illegal-border-crossers-total-over-10-million-since-biden-inauguration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Washington Examiner<\/a>, over 10 million illegal immigrants have been apprehended by U.S. border officials\u200c since Biden took office in January\u2063 2021. \u2062These figures don&#8217;t \u2063even include the estimated 1.7 \u200dmillion\u2064 &#8220;gotaways&#8221; who managed to evade capture after illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico border.<\/p>\n<p>In \u2062his \u2064statement, Abbott \u2062criticized Biden for enabling the ongoing invasion and highlighted how the president&#8217;s \u200d&#8221;refusal\u200b to protect the States&#8221; has \u200dled to &#8220;more \u200dthan 6 million illegal immigrants&#8221;\u200b crossing Texas&#8217; border alone. This\u2062 number exceeds the population of over 30 states.<\/p>\n<p>The Texas governor further emphasized the federal government&#8217;s obligation to defend states from \u200binvasion \u200dand the\u2064 states&#8217; right to protect their \u200bsovereignty from external threats, citing Article IV, \u00a7 4, and\u2063 Article I, \u00a7 \u200c10, \u2062Clause 3, of the U.S. Constitution. While the former states that the \u2062federal government &#8220;shall protect \u200ceach [State] against invasion,&#8221; \u2063the latter recognizes &#8220;the States&#8217; sovereign interest in protecting their borders.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;James Madison, Alexander\u2064 Hamilton,\u200b and the other visionaries who \u200bwrote \u2064the U.S. Constitution foresaw that States should \u200dnot be left to the mercy of\u2062 a lawless president who does nothing \u2063to stop external threats like cartels smuggling millions of illegal immigrants across \u200dthe border,&#8221; Abbott wrote.\u2062 &#8220;The failure of the Biden Administration to fulfill the duties imposed by Article IV, \u00a7 4 \u200dhas triggered Article I, \u00a7 10, Clause 3, which reserves \u2062to this State the \u200cright\u2063 of self-defense.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For these\u2064 reasons, I have \u200dalready declared an invasion under Article I, \u00a7 10, \u200dClause 3 to invoke Texas&#8217;s constitutional authority to defend and protect itself,&#8221;\u200c he continued. &#8220;That authority\u2064 is \u200cthe supreme law of the land and\u2063 supersedes any federal statutes to the contrary.
