Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC), chairwoman of the Education and the Workforce Committee, expressed dissatisfaction \u200dwith Harvard&#8217;s response, stating that \u200btheir\u2062 production of documents so far has been &#8220;woefully inadequate.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Rather than answering the\u2063 Committee&#8217;s request in a substantive manner, Harvard has chosen to provide letters from nonprofits and \u200dstudent handbooks, many of which are\u2062 already\u200c publicly available. This is unacceptable.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Foxx emphasized that subpoenas could\u200c be issued if \u2063Harvard\u200d fails\u2062 to meet\u200c the\u2063 committee&#8217;s demands, stating that\u200b they must produce the remaining\u200b documents in a timely manner or\u2063 face\u2064 compulsory measures.<\/p>\n<p>The investigation \u200binto \u200cHarvard, MIT, and\u200b the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) began in December after their respective \u200dpresidents avoided addressing whether calling for the genocide of Jews on\u200b campuses violated their schools&#8217; policies on \u200bbullying\u2062 and harassment. The GOP-led \u200dHouse has \u2063also \u2062passed \u2063a resolution\u2064 condemning\u200d their testimonies.<\/p>\n<p>Harvard \u200dPresident Claudine Gay&#8217;s remarks\u2063 during \u2062a hearing,\u200b where she suggested that &#8220;context&#8221; \u200cdetermined whether such calls for genocide violated the school&#8217;s policies, drew \u200dcriticism.
