After successfully enshrining abortion into Ohio’s constitution through this method, these activists are ‍once again seeking to‍ utilize it to influence the state’s elections system. This article explores their ⁢latest campaign and the potential consequences it may have on‍ Ohio’s ‌electoral integrity.

The ⁤Ohio Voters Bill⁣ of Rights⁤ Initiative:

Last week, Democrat-affiliated ⁣groups submitted paperwork to Attorney General Dave Yost to ‍propose an amendment ‌that ‍would embed leftist-backed voting policies into Ohio’s constitution. Supported‌ by organizations like⁢ the Ohio ⁤Organizing Collaborative and the Ohio NAACP, the campaign has recruited Cory Warfield, ‌a Democrat strategist with prior experience in ⁤using the ballot amendment‌ process, to lead the effort.

The amendment, deceptively named the “Ohio Voters Bill⁤ of ⁣Rights,” aims⁣ to repeal recently enacted voter ID‌ requirements and introduce numerous insecure voting practices⁢ into the state constitution. These practices include‌ same-day voter registration, automatic voter registration, and expanding early voting hours and ballot drop box locations.

Impact ‌on Voter ID Requirements:

One concerning ⁣aspect of the ‌proposal is its intention to replace Ohio’s ⁤voter ID law with a system where ‌voters can⁤ sign an affidavit swearing their identity. However, a court ⁤ruling‌ this month upheld Ohio’s ⁢voter ‍ID law as constitutional, stating that it does⁢ not burden voters. This raises questions about the necessity and ⁢potential consequences of amending‌ the state’s constitution ⁣to‍ replace an effective voter ID requirement.

Denied⁢ Filing and Further Steps:

Attorney General Dave Yost initially denied the ‍Democrat ‍groups’‌ paperwork filing, citing inaccuracies in the language ‌reflecting the amendment’s intent. However, Yost has until Thursday to decide whether the initiative‌ can move forward. If approved, the Ohio Ballot⁢ Board would review the proposed amendment and ‍determine ‌whether it should ⁣be presented⁤ as a single ballot issue or ⁤split into multiple parts. Following approval from the board, petitioners would need to collect approximately 413,000 valid voter signatures to‌ place the proposal(s) on the state’s ‌November ballot.

Nationwide Strategy:

The⁤ use of the ballot amendment process to amend ⁢state constitutions has become part of a ‍larger nationwide strategy by ⁢Democrats. Seeking⁢ to circumvent red-state elected officials, ‌Democrats⁣ aim to cement their ⁣radical agenda into⁤ law. ‍This strategy was successfully employed in Michigan ‌during the 2022 midterms, where Democrat-backed groups were able to deceive voters into supporting initiatives that enshrined controversial policies into the state’s constitution.

Conclusion:

The current campaign by Democrat‌ activists in Ohio to⁢ use the ballot amendment process to hijack the elections system raises concerns about electoral integrity. Efforts to ‍repeal voter ID requirements and introduce insecure voting practices ⁤may have far-reaching consequences for the state. It remains to be seen whether ‍Attorney General Dave Yost will approve⁢ the initiative,‍ but the outcome will have implications for Ohio’s elections ⁣and the future of ballot amendment processes in the state.

Democrat activists in Ohio, having successfully incorporated pro-choice measures into the constitution, now aim to manipulate the state’s election system using the same method.
