But it doesn\u2019t lean into\u200d the gay-race communism\u2062 that most contemporary films do. Instead, it explores the psychological\u200d toll of survivor\u2019s guilt and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/some-california-bills-that-can-die-without-discussion-on-sept-1\/\" title=\"California Bills That May Perish Unnoticed by Sept. 1\">post-traumatic stress \u2063disorder<\/a> and the importance of family, community, and mutual self-sacrifice.<\/p>\n<p>The\u200d film opens by showing protagonist K\u014dichi Shikishima defecting from his duty as a kamikaze pilot during\u200b the final \u200bdays of the Second World\u200c War. \u2064While wracked with neurotic ambivalence as he contemplates abandoning his suicidal obligation, the island-based mechanics\u2019 outpost upon which he has taken refuge gets attacked by the film\u2019s\u200c eponymous \u2062reptilian. Shikishima, having\u2064 the opportunity to slide back his Mitsubishi Zero\u2019s cockpit and gun down Godzilla, \u200cis\u2063 overcome by fear, and all \u200bbut \u2064he and head technician S\u014dsaku \u2062Tachibana are killed \u2014 a fact for which Tachibana holds him personally responsible.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-2cd0b32167813dd87faeda209a1c4a35 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-2cd0b32167813dd87faeda209a1c4a35\"><\/div>\n<p>While reacclimating to life as a civilian, \u2062Shikishima finds himself shacking up with a young vagabond woman, Noriko \u014cishi, and the orphaned child she adopted. From here, \u200bShikishima finds \u2063work as a minesweeper to support his new domestic partner and their adoptive\u200b child while, unbeknownst to the world, Godzilla is irradiated by U.S. nuclear tests at Bikini Atoll.<\/p>\n<p>Plagued by survivor\u2019s guilt and believing his life to be a curse for which the only \u200brelief is death, Shikishima continues \u200bto\u200b be\u2062 haunted by visions of \u2064his initial encounter with Godzilla\u200b \u2014 he is unable to lower his guard\u2062 and truly connect with the young woman in love with him and their adoptive child.<\/p>\n<p>The newly \u200bnuclearized Godzilla has mutated. It is now considerably larger and possesses new capabilities that not\u200d only remind Shikishima of his past\u200c trauma but also horrify him to new ends\u200b as it pursues \u2063his crew. After they barely escape with\u2062 their lives, Shikishima \u2063confides in Noriko about his experience with the monster.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-c2bb4351543e7819d31afb96ac92658b fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-c2bb4351543e7819d31afb96ac92658b\"><\/div>\n<p>After finding\u2064 its way\u200c to land, Godzilla devastates\u2064 the Ginza district in Tokyo. Noriko, on her way to a new job in the \u200dcity that she otherwise likely would not have taken had Shikishima been able \u200cto\u2063 overcome his\u200d woes and make\u200d her his wife, is seemingly killed in the \u2063process. In the \u200dwake of this destruction, a\u200d volunteer coalition assembles, committed to taking out the beast amid government inaction.<\/p>\n<p>The coalition devises a plan to crush Godzilla to death by rapidly sending\u2062 it to the ocean floor with the assistance of freon gas. But Shikishima, now overcome with \u2063grief,\u2063 secretly plots \u200dto fill a fighter\u2064 plane with high-grade explosives and crash it directly into\u200b the only known \u2063weak point on Godzilla\u2019s body, the inside of its mouth. He contacts Tachibana, enlists him in the cause, and, fully prepared to die, leaves his\u200d adopted child in \u2063the care of his neighbor.<\/p>\n<p>Shikishima sees this new kamikaze mission as a way for him to finally end the war. This suicide mission will enable him to fulfill his original\u200b duty as a kamikaze\u200b pilot and avenge all the deaths for which he feels responsible. But despite his instance of pursuing \u200can honorable death and retribution, Shikishima does\u2063 not want to die. He has \u2064come to\u2062 love\u2062 his new life.<\/p>\n<p>Seeing\u200b this and respecting the courage it took him to continue\u2064 living forward despite\u2063 all his suffering, Tachibana insists that Shikishima continue\u2062 to live\u2062 and implores him to eject\u200d prior to the plane\u2019s collision.\u2064 Honor for Shikishima is \u2062to \u200cbe found \u200cin caring for his child \u200dand continuing \u2062to\u200b help those \u200dwho \u200brely upon him.<\/p>\n<p>The plan \u200dgoes more\u200c or less as intended. Shikishima is able to fatally wound Godzilla and avoid death.
