Monica de la Cruz (R-TX) and Randy Weber (R-TX). Rep. Tony Gonzales \u2063(R-TX) did not attend the\u2062 border visit but will meet the group in Mexico. De\u200b la Cruz will not continue \u200bwith the rest\u2063 from Texas.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>Positive Results\u200b and Cooperation<\/h3>\n<p>The White\u200d House praised Mexico for taking \u201cswift action against migrants\u201d in the days since Biden administration officials met with their counterparts \u2062in Mexico City on\u200b Dec. 27, 2023.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur \u200btrip to Mexico \u200blast month came at a\u200d critical moment to continue\u2062 building on our cooperation and the significant efforts of our Mexican partners,\u201d a\u2063 White House National Security Council spokesperson wrote in an email. \u201cWe\u200d are already starting to see the\u2064 results and DHS has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/white-house-cheers-mexicos-swift-action-against-migrants-experts-say-its-purely-visual\/\" title=\"White House praises Mexico's quick response to migrants, but experts deem it merely superficial\">reopened multiple ports<\/a> of entry along the border recently, in large\u2064 part, thanks to Mexico\u2019s augmented enforcement efforts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSpecifically, our Mexican partners have taken \u200bswift action against migrants bordering \u200crail and buses, and last week took steps to initiate repatriation flights to Venezuela as part \u2064of our regional migration\u2063 strategy under the Los Angeles Declaration,\u201d the\u200b NSC official said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Mexico\u2019s very public takedowns of\u200c an immigrant caravan, border \u200bcamp, and deterrence of \u2062immigrants riding atop northbound freight\u2063 trains have made headlines since the bilateral \u200dtalks, but some immigration analysts have suggested the actions were done specifically to garner attention while having the \u200dleast impact on the crisis overall.<\/p>\n<p>Lopez Obrador said the U.S. reached out\u200d for \u200chelp days before Christmas. The Mexican president \u200bsaid \u2063what Biden described in a post \u200bon X as\u2063 a U.S. request to reopen closed border crossings to trade and traffic was a private plea.<\/p>\n<p>Following the latest bilateral meeting \u200con Friday, State Department spokesman Matthew \u2063Miller was less detailed about any specific agreements that both nations reached this time around.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>Addressing the Border Crisis<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cDuring the meeting, Secretary Blinken and the U.S. delegation noted that our coordinated efforts with Mexico \u200dare demonstrating positive results \u200cat our shared border,\u201d Miller\u2062 said in a statement. \u201cThey discussed the positive\u2063 impact of efforts to increase migration controls on bus and train \u2063routes, crack down on criminal smuggling\u2062 networks,\u200d and scale up repatriations for those who do\u200c not have \u2062a legal basis\u2064 to \u2062remain\u200b in our countries.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The congressional delegation is working\u2062 simultaneously in Washington to move forward on a legislative solution\u2064 to the \u2064border crisis.<\/p>\n<p>Cuellar said\u200c Saturday that he \u200bsupported House \u2062Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) in his call to address the situation. House Republicans put forth a comprehensive border security package in 2023,\u2062 but the Senate\u200b has yet\u2063 to\u2063 take it up \u2062for\u2064 consideration and\u200d has not agreed to include the entire plan in a \u2063supplemental funding bill for Ukraine and Israel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m with Mike,\u200b I hope we can \u2064address\u200d it,\u201d\u2064 Cuellar said. \u201cWe do know\u2064 that the speaker \u200csaid that they \u2062were going to turn down the Senate \u2062deal, which I hope\u2062 he doesn\u2019t. If there\u2019s a crisis, I think we need \u200dto get together. And I think this \u200bgroup here can\u200c get together to address this issue. \u2064I \u200bhope we can do this supplemental.
