No one said anything.\u2064 It was a normal football \u2062game and La Jolla won,\u201d J.A. said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The boy continued by noting that he put black \u2064eye paint on like football players do in order to show school spirit while attending a high school game between La Jolla High School and Morse High \u2062School.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cI used to go to a lot of football games when I lived in Texas, and I used to play football and \u200bsometimes we put that on\u2062 if one of the\u2063 kids brought it,\u201d he added. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Ameduri, his father, said\u200b that he was in \u201cshock\u201d when he found out that his son had been called into the principal\u2019s office \u2064to be reprimanded a \u2064couple days after\u200c the game. \u2062 <\/p>\n<p>Reportedly, no nearby spectators \u2062had complained about the child\u2019s\u2062 face paint and there had been no additional\u2062 incidents that his son \u200bwas involved in. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cThen, the \u200dfollowing Monday, Tuesday, nothing,\u201d he\u2062 continued. \u201cWednesday afternoon the principal\u200c called J.A. into \u200cthe office, and the next morning my wife and I showed up and he said, \u2018He did blackface,\u2019 and he was suspended for two days and was gonna be banned from sports.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Ameduri later showed the\u2064 Muirlands Middle\u200c School principal\u200c a\u2064 photo of his son from that \u200bnight, \u200bwhich he assumed would end the controversy and \u201cvindicate\u201d his \u200bson, however, the principal abruptly responded, saying, \u201cNo, that\u2019s blackface.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cAnyone that has ever been to a sports\u2063 game knows that this is very normal and these are kids that were playing hide and seek a few days \u2064prior at my house\u2026 half \u200cof the group are minorities, some of them African American, it\u2019s just ridiculous\u200d that this would be a racial \u200dincident,\u201d \u2064the father said. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The family\u2019s lawyer, Karin Sweigart, was also present at the\u2063 interview and explained the lawsuit \u200cin greater detail, stating that they are \u201cdirectly \u200dsuing the principal and superintendent.\u201d\u2063 <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re suing the principal directly, the superintendent \u2064and then the people who made the decision to rubber stamp the principal\u2019s ridiculous decision to suspend J.A.,\u201d Sweigart said. \u201cThere was a recent case just in the\u200d last couple of years at the Supreme Court where they talked\u2062 about\u2062 the out-of-school speech rights that students\u2062 have to be able to express themselves.
