Andy\u2064 Biggs, R-Arizona, raising questions and concerns about the \u200dtestimony.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking before members\u2064 of\u200c the U.S. House Committee on Oversight and\u200c Accountability on Wednesday, David Bier, associate director of Immigration Studies at the Washington, D.C.-based libertarian Cato Institute,\u200b blamed \u2063failed immigration policies on the Trump administration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn January 2017, this flawed and already failing system underwent a years-long intentional \u2063sabotage campaign unlike anything witnessed in the history\u2062 of modern immigration law,\u201d Bier, a Democrat, said. From January 2017 to January 2021, nearly 500 policies\u200d \u2013 large and small \u2013 were implemented to disrupt the legal immigration system\u2019s normal operations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also said, \u201cAmerica\u2019s \u200bimmigration laws\u200d and regulations were already far too restrictive, offering little to no viable alternative to\u200c illegal\u200d immigration for most immigrants seeking entry to the United States.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Advocating for More Foreign Nationals to Fill Open Jobs<\/h3>\n<p>Bier spoke ahead of the U.S. House Homeland Security Committee holding a hearing Thursday on the consequences of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas\u2019 border policies.<\/p>\n<p>Bier advocated \u200dfor \u200bmore foreign nationals to enter the U.S. to fill open \u200cjobs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom\u200c January 2021 to\u200c May 2023, the United States consistently\u2064 averaged 10.5 million job openings per month,\u201d he said. \u201cEvery\u2064 month since January 2021 has seen more \u200djob openings than any previous month.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biggs asked Bier \u200bif he \u200cknew how\u2062 many known, suspected terrorists\u2063 (KSTs) entered the U.S. since President Joe Biden took office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA couple of hundred,\u201d he replied.<\/p>\n<p>Biggs replied, \u201cNo, that\u2019s the \u2062number that we\u2019ve \u2062actually\u2063 interdicted. How many [terrorists] have come in?\u200b Do you know?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know \u200dhow many Border Patrol has arrested,\u201d Bier replied. Biggs again\u2062 repeated his question,\u2063 saying he didn\u2019t \u200cknow how\u200b many \u2062had come in. Bier said he didn\u2019t know either but \u201cwanted Border Patrol [agents] \u2064to go after terrorists. If people came into the country legally, we\u2019d have a more secure border.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In fiscal 2023 alone, 736 KSTs were\u2062 apprehended \u2062at U.S.\u200b borders, the highest number in U.S. history. The\u200d majority, \u206266%,\u200d were apprehended \u2064at the northern border,\u200d The\u200d Center Square first reported.<\/p>\n<p>Former Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Tom Homan, who\u200c also testified Wednesday, \u200csaid the number of \u200bKSTs who \u2064weren\u2019t caught who illegally entered the U.S. \u201cshould frighten\u200d everyone.\u201d \u200dHe also said current policies\u200b \u201chave created\u200d the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hagerty-biden-created-greatest-national-security-crisis-that-we-face-on-border\/\" title=\"Hagerty: Biden Created 'Greatest National Security Crisis That We Face' on Border\">greatest national security crisis<\/a>\u2062 since 9\/11.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biggs asked Bier if\u200b he\u2019d \u201cever been to the border \u200band watched the current process\u201d of how Border\u2062 Patrol agents issue parole papers to foreign nationals after they illegally enter \u2063the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve seen it on video,\u201d he \u2063replied.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019ve not been down there?\u201d Biggs asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve\u200b not \u2064personally witnessed it,\u201d Bier \u2062replied.<\/p>\n<p>Bier also repeated a previously debunked claim that\u200d 90% of fentanyl has been\u200d seized at\u200d ports of entry. Border Patrol chiefs and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/public-radio-reporter-arrested-for-firebombing-police-cars\/\" title=\"Public Radio \u201cReporter\u201d Arrested For Firebombing Police Cars\">law enforcement officials<\/a>\u200c have contradicted that claim, saying the majority of fentanyl is being trafficked between ports \u200dof entry \u200band agents \u2063are needed in the field to seize it. Texas law enforcement officers, who don\u2019t work at ports of entry, have seized more \u200dthan\u2063 453 million lethal \u200cdoses of\u2064 fentanyl, enough to \u2062kill more\u2063 than everyone\u2063 in the U.S. and\u2063 Mexico, according to data from Gov. Greg Abbott\u2019s \u2063office.<\/p>\n<p>Former \u2062U.S. \u200cBorder Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz testified last year \u200dthat \u2064Border Patrol agents had\u200b been instructed to\u2064 release illegal foreign \u2064nationals en masse into \u200cthe U.S. Rio Grande Valley Sector. Border Patrol Chief\u200d Gloria Chavez told \u2062officials the same thing. Mayorkas changed and implemented \u2062new parole policies, prompting\u2064 multiple lawsuits, including one led \u2064by Florida. In one Florida\u200d case, a federal \u200bjudge ruled Mayorkas\u2019 \u2062policies \u2064were illegal and \u201cthe \u2064evidence establishes that Defendants [including Secretary Mayorkas] have effectively turned the Southwest Border into\u2063 a meaningless line in the sand\u201d \u200band that Mayorkas\u2019\u2064 \u201cactions were \u200bakin to posting a flashing \u2018Come In, We\u2019re Open\u2019 sign on the southern \u200cborder.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked about the parole process, Homan explained that illegal foreign nationals get work authorization papers. Biggs asked Bier, \u201cHow many people who \u200cwere \u200bparoled into\u200c the country are working?\u201d Bier said he didn\u2019t\u2064 know.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNobody knows,\u201d Biggs said. \u201cYou want to know why? We don\u2019t\u200d keep in contact\u200d with them. \u200dWe have no idea where\u2064 they went. We\u2019ve taken them and distributed\u200d them throughout\u200b the country and we don\u2019t know \u200cwhere\u2064 they are or what they are doing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> <\/p>\n<h2> How does\u2064 Rep. Biggs challenge Bier&#8217;s claim about the number of known terrorists who\u200c have\u2063 entered\u200c the country\u2064 since \u200bPresident Biden took office<\/h2>\n<p><span>  Ey cross the border illegally. He \u200dargued that the Trump administration intentionally sabotaged the system, resulting in a flawed and failing system. \u200cAdditionally, he claimed that\u200c immigration laws \u200band regulations in the United States\u2062 were already too restrictive, offering few\u200c alternatives to illegal immigration.<\/p>\n<p>However, \u2062Rep. Biggs challenged these claims, questioning \u2064the impact of the policies implemented by the Trump administration and asking for evidence to support Bier&#8217;s arguments. Biggs also emphasized the \u200bimportance of\u2063 national security and questioned Bier on the number of known,\u200b suspected terrorists that had entered\u200c the country since President Biden took office.<\/p>\n<p>Bier&#8217;s response that only a couple\u2062 hundred terrorists had entered raised further\u200b concerns among lawmakers.\u2063 Biggs \u2064argued that Bier didn&#8217;t have the correct information and pressed him on the number of terrorists who had actually entered the country. \u2063The lack of\u200b clarity and knowledge on this\u2063 crucial issue further\u200c undermined\u200b Bier&#8217;s credibility.<\/p>\n<p>Former\u2064 Immigration and Customs Enforcement\u200d Director Tom Homan,\u200c who also testified before Congress, supported Biggs&#8217; concerns about national security.
