Jean Carroll.<\/p>\n<p>A judge in September ruled \u200dthat Trump is liable for making \u200bdefamatory remarks about Carroll \u200bin 2019, when\u200c she first publicly accused him of sexually \u200cassaulting her in a \u2064Manhattan department\u2064 store during the mid-1990s. This trial is limited to \u200ddamages stemming \u200cfrom that ruling; Carroll is seeking at least $10 million.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, Trump\u2019s \u200blegal team \u2062has asked U.S. District Court Judge Lewis Kaplan if the trial could be delayed so the former president could attend his mother-in-law Amalija Knavs\u2019\u2063 funeral on Thursday. Judge \u200dKaplan said no, and on \u200bTuesday, Trump\u2019s lawyer Alina \u2062Habba asked Kaplan if the \u2064trial could\u2062 continue, \u2064but to \u201cgrant an adjournment\u201d Thursday so Trump could attend \u200cthe \u200bfuneral. That, \u2062too, was denied.<\/p>\n<p>CNN reported Tuesday that Kaplan said Trump did not have to be present \u2063for \u2064the entire trial and could testify if he wanted to on a different day and, therefore, doesn\u2019t need to pause the\u200c trial \u200don Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2064 has\u2063 been outspoken about Judge Kaplan and Carroll. He posted to his Truth\u200d Social account on Tuesday that the judge is biased and has \u201cabsolute hatred\u201d for him, and said\u2063 he never \u201ctouched\u201d Carroll.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe \u200donly right, honest, and lawful thing that Clinton-appointed Judge Lewis Kaplan, who has \u2062so far been unable to see clearly because of his absolute hatred of Donald J.
